“For to us a child is born, to us a Son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

 One of my favorite verses for Christmas is Isaiah 9:6, “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Isaiah wrote this passage around 740 BC during a time of poor and godless leadership in Israel. The people of Israel had been suffering through the reigns of four ungodly kings: Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah. They were corrupt and had led the people far from God. It was a very dark time in history. Isaiah wrote these words knowing God would have to intervene to bring Israel back to himself. The kingdom was crumbling, and the people needed hope.

This passage makes two major statements. This first is an acknowledgment of the brokenness and darkness that surrounded Israel due to sin and corruption. The second is the hope of a dawning light through the birth of a child who would one day make everything right. The Jewish people in the Old Testament needed these words to remind them that God had not forgotten about them.

The center of the Christmas story is focused squarely on the birth of Jesus. He is the fulfillment of the Israelite's hope that God would push back the darkness and shine a bright light into the world.

One of the reasons Christmas resonates in our hearts is because we, too, live in a world that is similar to Israel. Our world today is dark and corrupt because of the sin that so easily entrapped us. There is war, disease, conflict, immorality, and oppression all around us. We also are in need of the Christ child to usher in light to push back the darkness around us.

Christmas is a reminder that whatever it is we hope for in our lives—healing, restoration, forgiveness, or a fresh start—it is available to us through Immanuel, who is God with us. Hope does not come from the absence of conflict, difficulty, struggle, or trial, but rather in spite of these things. Hope is a result of the presence of God. Peace is a result of the presence of God. Remember Jesus is Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. He is the reason we can hope, dream and plan for our future because He is the one who determines our future.

 Uno de mis versículos favoritos para Navidad es Isaías 9:6, “Porque un niño nos es nacido, hijo nos es dado, y el principado sobre sus hombros. Y se llamará Admirable, Consejero, Dios Fuerte, Padre Eterno, Príncipe de Paz”.

Isaías escribió este pasaje alrededor del año 740 a. C. durante una época de liderazgo pobre e impío en Israel. El pueblo de Israel había estado sufriendo durante los reinados de cuatro reyes impíos: Uzías, Jotam, Acaz y Ezequías. Eran corruptos y habían alejado al pueblo de Dios. Fue una época muy oscura de la historia. Isaías escribió estas palabras sabiendo que Dios tendría que intervenir para traer a Israel de vuelta a sí mismo. El reino se estaba desmoronando y la gente necesitaba esperanza.

Este pasaje hace dos declaraciones principales. El primero es un reconocimiento del quebrantamiento y la oscuridad que rodeaba a Israel debido al pecado y la corrupción. El segundo es la esperanza de una luz que amanece a través del nacimiento de un niño que un día arreglaría todo. El pueblo judío en el Antiguo Testamento necesitaba estas palabras para recordarles que Dios no se había olvidado de ellos.

El centro de la historia de la Navidad se centra directamente en el nacimiento de Jesús. Él es el cumplimiento de la esperanza de los israelitas de que Dios haría retroceder la oscuridad y haría brillar una luz brillante en el mundo.

Una de las razones por las que la Navidad resuena en nuestros corazones es porque nosotros también vivimos en un mundo similar a Israel. Nuestro mundo de hoy es oscuro y corrupto debido al pecado que tan fácilmente nos atrapó. Hay guerra, enfermedad, conflicto, inmoralidad y opresión a nuestro alrededor. También necesitamos al niño Jesús para traer la luz y hacer retroceder la oscuridad que nos rodea.

La Navidad es un recordatorio de que cualquier cosa que esperemos en nuestras vidas (sanación, restauración, perdón o un nuevo comienzo) está disponible para nosotros a través de Emanuel, quien es Dios con nosotros. La esperanza no proviene de la ausencia de conflicto, dificultad, lucha o prueba, sino más bien a pesar de estas cosas. La esperanza es un resultado de la presencia de Dios. La paz es el resultado de la presencia de Dios. Recuerden que Jesús es Admirable, Consejero, Dios Fuerte, Padre Eterno, Príncipe de Paz. Él es la razón por la que podemos esperar, soñar y planificar nuestro futuro porque Él es quien determina nuestro futuro.
