This year, the award-winning and beloved Scarsdale Adult School proudly celebrates the 84th anniversary of its founding. It’s been a tough couple of years for everyone, and the SAS team, led by our longtime director, Jill Serling, responded with creativity and flexibility to the challenges of the pandemic, pivoting to online classes within days of lockdown. In fact, the advent of Zoom classes while people were staying home allowed SAS to extend its reach well beyond the boundaries of its namesake. Thousands of online classes were offered, and tens of thousands of students from more than 500 postal codes across the United States and Europe signed on during quarantine and beyond.
So, now students can choose from a hybrid schedule of offerings. There are walking tours, gallery visits, games to be played, hands-on arts and crafts instruction, lectures – with both in-person and remote options available. The sense of community is stronger than ever as people meet for the first time, or reunite in person after attending classes together online. As the virus recedes, SAS has responded by increasing our face-to-face offerings.
Scarsdale Adult School is totally self-supporting. Our goal is to keep tuition reasonably low, to hire excellent instructors, and to continue to add new and varied classes. We receive no funding from any school district or municipality. As with any tuition-based not-for-profit, the cost of instructors, operational fees, and staff salaries cannot be covered without generous tax-deductible donations. We depend on contributions from our Board members, Advisory Committee members, ongoing supporters and new donors. Please join the SAS community by contributing as generously as you can to our 2022 campaign, our only fundraiser of the year. Thank you in advance, and see you in class!
Sincerely,
Deb Morel and Lisa Tretler, Co-Chairs of the SAS Board of Trustees
