The loss of a spouse or family member can be overwhelming. In addition to the grieving process, the surviving family must take steps to put financial affairs in order. One of the best gifts you can give your loved ones is organizing your financial affairs ahead of time. Whether you are preparing to help aging parents, or a senior citizen, this two-part webinar will show you what you’ll need and how to organize yourself to make things easier for your family.
Thursday, January 11 at 6:00 p.m. (Part 1)
Join expert Tamara Haskins, CPA and Financial Service Professional with New York Life, for an overview of what needs to be done in the case of a death or disabling condition in a family. Ms. Haskins will review steps to be taken (and in what order), documents you’ll need, and how to talk with family members beforehand to prevent issues later. Tools and resources will be shared.
Thursday, January 25 at 10:00 a.m. (Part 2)
CaringMatters Board Member Sue DeGraba will provide a hands-on approach to getting your financial paperwork and other important information organized. Helpful resources, like the Gaithersburg Financial Empowerment Center, and tools to prevent financial fraud will be presented.
You may choose to attend one or both webinars.

The holiday season can be a time of joy and gratitude. However, for many people experiencing serious illness, caregiving challenges and grief, the season only brings complicated feelings of uncertainty, loneliness and isolation. Throughout the holidays and beyond, CaringMatters is there - a trusted community resource that provides critical emotional lifelines, free of charge, at the time they are needed the most.
The important work of CaringMatters is not only based on care, but also the notion of being present. We have found that:
- Household supplies delivered to the door can bring tears of relief and gratitude.
- A volunteer that shows up on time to take a cancer patient to a medical appointment is a true act of kindness.
- A friendly face on the computer screen can bring validation and possibly relieve a bit of the heartache of grief.
- A family art project completed over Zoom can spark conversations, healing and new friendships.
We couldn't do this work without you! Your donation to CaringMatters will ensure our compassionate support services are available when needed, at no cost, for you, your loved ones and the entire community. Please consider a gift of $50, $100, $250 or any amount so no one in Montgomery County dies alone or grieves without support.
Thank you for your continued generous support and your steadfast belief in our work. We wish you a peaceful holiday season and healthy new year.
