Industry Survey

Tennessee’s manufacturers represent one of the most important components of the state’s economy, resulting in significant economic output and employing hundreds of thousands of individuals. Manufacturing relies upon access to reliable and quality natural resources, such as water, energy, and land. One way that manufacturers can contribute to continued access to natural resources is through effective pollution prevention measures, which can help reduce industry bottom line costs, while ensuring environmentally sound business operations. The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation’s Office of Sustainable Practices (OSP) is conducting a voluntary survey of Tennessee manufacturers to better understand opportunities for providing technical assistance that will support pursuit of operational practices which prevent pollution.

OSP has received a grant to offer technical assistance to Tennessee manufacturers and needs your input as part of this initial assessment to inform future programming and offerings. The emphasis for technical assistance in 2024 will be on Food and Beverage Manufacturers and Processing (NAICS codes 3121), Automotive Manufacturers and Maintenance (NAICS codes 3361-3363, and 8111), and facilities that are listed on the Toxic Release Inventory, but assistance offerings will be open to all manufacturers in the state. Please help our Office by taking a 5-10 minute survey. Individual responses will remain anonymous; however aggregated results will be shared with all participants.

Survey responses will enable OSP to offer meetings, webinars, and workshops/forums that specifically address issues you have identified as facing your industry.

***If you are an Environmental Manager at more than one manufacturing facility in the State of Tennessee, please fill out one survey for each location you are managing.

Upcoming Reporting Date

In order to help our office promote, recognize, and share your organization's successes, we ask that you fill out and submit your semi-annual report. Please find an overview of the reporting process below and tutorial video walking through the TGSP reporting process:

TDEC will only be requesting two reports each year.

Semi-Annual Report - Due January 15:

We ask that participating facilities report information to us by no later than January 15th for July 1st - December 31st.

Note: Please provide items that you have been working on at your facility as well as anything that you would like for use to highlight in various media outlets.

Nokian Tyres Welcomed Into Tennessee Green Star Partnership

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) today welcomed Nokian Tyres as the newest member of the Tennessee Green Star Partnership, an environmental leadership program recognizing Tennessee manufacturers for their record in sustainability. State and local officials joined leaders of the company today for a ceremony at the Nokian Tyres Dayton Factory.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has re-opened applications for small to mid-sized manufacturing firms to receive grants of up to $300,000, at 50% cost share, to implement recommendations from energy assessments.

TVA Residential Energy Efficiency Rebates Available

TVA is offering rebates for residential energy efficiency upgrades through 2027. The rebates are part of the $1.5 billion in energy efficiency and demand response programs TVA has planned through 2027. Residential upgrades that may be eligible for rebates include qualifying HVAC systems, duct and air sealing, heat pump water heaters, insulation, windows, and HVAC tune-ups. Homeowners can stack multiple rebates. To qualify, customers must use a member of TVA’s Quality Contractor Network to install upgrades. Commercial customers should contact their local power company regarding the availability of energy efficiency rebates or incentives. Operational Resilience: More than Disaster Recovery

To contend with the explosion of cybercrime and its impact on business operations, many organizations are updating their disaster recovery plans to include cyber incident response. Many of the processes and guidelines in traditional disaster recovery plans have changed little in years, sometimes even in over a decade—making them ill-suited to address cyber disasters. More important, at a business level, disaster recovery is just one aspect of a larger discipline: operational resilience.
