2023 CITT Town Hall Convenes Stakeholders

to Discuss Port Decarbonization Challenges

CITT hosted its annual State of the Trade and Transportation Industry Town Hall Meeting on November 17 at the Pointe Conference Center on the campus of California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). This year’s focus was on port decarbonization. Since the inaugural event in 2001, the CITT Town Hall has featured robust discussions about controversial topics. Past Town Halls have addressed issues running the gamut from labor strikes to chassis shortages to the impacts of a global pandemic. This year’s focus on port decarbonization featured an expert panel and the presentation of the 2023 Domenick Miretti Award.

CITT Honors Harbor Commissioner Diane Middleton with Domenick Miretti Award

The CITT Policy and Steering Committee proudly presented Harbor Commissioner Diane Middleton with the 2023 Domenick Miretti Award at this year’s State of the Trade and Transportation Industry Town Hall Meeting. On November 17, ILWU Local 13 President Gary Herrera took the stage and introduced Middleton not only as an esteemed labor advocate and an accomplished attorney, but as a dear friend to the ILWU and the Harbor community at large.

METRANS Joins Global Initiatives Showcase

at Green Shipping Corridor Workshop

Hosted By Pacific Environment and C40 Cities

Environmental organization Pacific Environment and C40 Cities, a global network of nearly 100 mayors committed to tackling the climate crisis, came together on November 14 at the Carson Event Center for a Green Shipping Corridor Workshop. The event convened policymakers and staff from the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, City of Los Angeles, and the South Coast Air Quality Management District for a night of insight, education, and community engagement. METRANS joined the Global Initiatives Showcase section of the event and presented Dr's. Marlon Boarnet’s and Genevieve Giuliano's (USC) research on California’s Advanced Clean Fleet Rules to local healthcare workers, educators, and community activists.

The METRANS Transportation Consortium was established in 1998 as the first University Transportation Center in Southern California. METRANS is a joint partnership of the University of Southern California (USC) and California State University, Long Beach (CSULB).


METRANS' mission is to solve transportation problems of large metropolitan regions through interdisciplinary research, education and outreach. Its three primary objectives are: (1) fostering independent, high quality research to solve the nation's transportation problems; (2) training the next generation transportation workforce; and (3) disseminating information, best practices, and technology to the professional community.
