December 2023: Merry Christmas from LPAS

As we head into the holiday season, we at Langley Pos-Abilities Society would like to wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year. Thank you so much to our community members who take the time to read our newsletters, keep up with our social media, participate in our very special events/campaigns, and donate mobility aids/devices to our society. Your support means more to us than you know. Thank you, thank you, thank you. As a non-profit agency, we could not do this without you.

See you in the new year!

GIVE THE GIFT OF INDEPENDENCE: DONATE TODAY

This holiday season, consider giving back to those who need it. With your contributions, we are able to provide the gift of independence; the gift that keeps on giving. Here at Langley Pos-Abilities Society, our focus is to provide the aid that many people may not be able to afford on their own. Everybody deserves accessible living. If you can consider donating to our cause, you can help reach more people and give the gift of accessibility.

NEEDED: MANUAL WHEELCHAIRS & WALKERS

We have a waitlist and need donations. These pieces of equipment are absolutely essential for many living with a disability. Let's help make life more accessible for members in our community who need these items. If you are able to donate, know someone else who can, or can spread the word about this area of need we would greatly appreciate it.

Personal Assistive Devices Program

Through our P.A.D. Program, it is possible to request a personal assistive piece of equipment. If you would like to browse available equipment, please visit our catalog.

While our catalog is being updated, call for confirmation at: 604-961-0117.

Information about requesting or donating equipment can be found on our website.

Through this program, we aim to provide disability-awareness education.

TOAD Program

We have developed several programs which promote understanding of and increase empathy towards persons with disabilities.

Ideal as team-building exercises, employee or management retreats, school educational experiences, seminars, in-services, or lunch and learn events, these activities are fun, interactive and eye-opening.

PUSH FOR ACCESSIBILITY: MAPPING PROJECT

Langley Pos-Abilities is engaged in a Mapping Program. The purpose is to enable access to public buildings for anyone who might have challenges, such as seniors, mothers with strollers, and people with disabilities. Disabilities include mobility issues, hearing loss, blindness, and many other conditions requiring assistive devices.

This can be easily accessed on any device (laptop, phone, iPad). We are encouraging all members of our community to take time and review different locations you go to in terms of 3 main accessibility features: mobility, vision, and hearing.

Accessible or Not?

Watch this video to learn about how important it is for people in wheelchairs and scooters to have proper accessible parking. Lack of proper parking in the right location can put them at risk or restricts access to their vehicle. Accessible parking isn't about convenience, it's a requirement.

Langley Pos-Abilities Society is grateful to have collaborated with SPARC BC on this project.

Accessibility Audit Program

Langley Pos-Abilities will assess your workplace accessibility, offer you a detailed report, and if needed, suggest ideas to improve your score. There are many low-cost or cost-free ways you can make your workplace a welcoming environment for people with disabilities.

Contact us today to receive an audit and assistance in making your facility more accessible for all.
