Welcoming Clara J. Park, Director of Member Engagement

Thrilled to welcome Clara Jungah Park (she/her) to the Nonprofit Staten Island team!

Clara is not just a passionate social justice advocate; she's a powerhouse with a rich background in public policy, international relations, program management, civic engagement, leadership development, and DEIA training.

With her extensive experience at mission-driven organizations like Coro New York Leadership Center and the Asian American Federation, Clara is set to make a significant impact within the Korean community in NYC.

Her journey began with a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies and Human Rights from Trinity College, followed by dynamic roles like NYC Civic Corps Member and Special Assistant to the South Korean Ambassador to the UN.

In 2019, she added another feather to her cap, earning a Master in Public Administration degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Currently donning the hat of Executive Director at the Korean Community Development Center of Staten Island, Clara is actively working towards expanding service access for her community.

A true native Staten Islander, Clara finds joy in exploring different corners of the globe and indulging in diverse food and cultural experiences during her free time. Let's give Clara a warm welcome as she continues her incredible journey of service and advocacy with Nonprofit Staten Island.

Feel free to say hello and reach out to her at Clara@sinfpa.org for any membership related questions!

#Why15 Campaign

A special shout-out to CM Hanks and Carr for their outstanding representation, ensuring Staten Island's voice is heard in the committee!

Our nonprofits are the heartbeat of Staten Island, contributing to education, health, culture, and language access. Yesterday, we joined over 225 organizations in the #WHY15 campaign, advocating for transparency and inclusion in the City's budget.

Mayor Adams' abrupt budget cuts have created uncertainty within our organizations. A 15% cut is not sustainable and poses a threat to essential services for Staten Island and NYC. As we navigate through COVID-related challenges and inflation, nonprofits are stretched thin, facing understaffing, low wages, and increased service demands.

Let's address this challenge together and redirect support to organizations committed to community well-being. Nonprofits are not just service providers – we are integral partners in the city's prosperity.

Our collaborative partnerships with the City are crucial for a resilient and thriving future. Thank you for your unwavering support, and let's continue advocating for the vital role of nonprofits in Staten Island.

Grant Opportunities:

The New York Community Trust will award two- and/or three-year grants of up to $75,000 per year to increase the capacity of groups that serve children with disabilities and their families. The RFP can be found on the NYCT Grants Portal. Applications are due by 5:00pm on Tuesday, January 16, 2024.

Priority will be given to agencies created and led by people of color and to groups operating programs in neighborhoods that have historically had access to inadequate resources. Grants will help groups carry out a specific project designed to resolve administrative challenges, increase efficiency, start a new or expand an existing program, or explore other ways to sustain the organization in the longer term.

Additionally, NYCT will hold an information session via Zoom on Monday, December 18th from 2:00-3:00 pm. If you would like to attend, please register here for the info session by Monday, December 11th. A recording will also be made available online.

Nonprofit Security Grant Program

The Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) provides funding support for target hardening and other physical security enhancements and activities to nonprofit organizations that are at high risk of terrorist attack. The intent is to integrate nonprofit preparedness activities with broader state and local preparedness efforts. It is also designed to promote coordination and collaboration in emergency preparedness activities among public and private community representatives, as well as state and local government agencies.

How to Apply

ATTENTION Cultural institutions: There is a grant opportunity through the Public Humanities Projects program! This initiative supports projects that bring humanities ideas to life for diverse audiences via engaging public programming. Emphasizing engagement with humanities scholarship, projects explore significant themes in history, literature, ethics, and art history.

Awards are designed to reach broad and diverse public audiences in non-classroom settings across the United States. The program supports projects in three categories—Exhibitions, Historic Places, and Humanities Discussions—offering funding at two levels: Planning and Implementation. Consider integrating complementary components, like a museum exhibition accompanied by a website or mobile app.

Project topics can be international, national, regional, or local in focus. Local projects should connect to broader themes or historical questions of regional or national relevance. If your project doesn't address wider regional or national concerns, explore local funding sources, such as state humanities councils.

Award amounts vary based on the project’s scope and expected audiences, with a special encouragement for small and mid-sized organizations to apply. Tailor your humanities project for specific groups, including families, youth (K-12 students in informal educational settings), underserved communities, and veterans.
