News and Updates from Turning Point of Lehigh Valley

For those in abusive relationships, safety planning is an important step, and navigating safety during the holidays is crucial. Important things to consider when developing a Safety Plan:

  • Keep essential documents, medications, and a packed bag ready in case a swift departure is necessary.
  • Be discreet in seeking support, perhaps using coded language or signals.
  • Utilize available resources like local helplines or shelters that may offer holiday-specific assistance.
  • Stay vigilant about potential triggers and establish boundaries to protect yourself.
  • If attending gatherings, communicate your situation to a trusted person who can intervene if needed.
  • Remember, self-care is paramount; prioritize your well-being and seek professional help when possible.

At Turning Point of Lehigh Valley our advocates are available to assist callers with safety planning and supports during this time.

2023 Lehigh Valley Chapter of A.B.A.T.E. 40th Anniversary Toy Run

We extend our profound gratitude to the Lehigh Valley Chapter of A.B.A.T.E. for orchestrating the highly successful 40th Annual Toy Run on November 18th! The generosity displayed by all who rallied behind this event resulted in a remarkable contribution exceeding $1,500, which included bikes, toys, gift cards, and other invaluable donations. Our sincere appreciation is directed towards the bikers and all participants who generously dedicated their time and resources which will significantly enhance this holiday season for all of our families. We want to extend a special thank you to Beverly and Joe Faraci for their unwavering dedication in coordinating this event each year. Thank you!

Rianna's Race

On November 19th, we were honored to have Mary McKenna and Geraldine Infante, our dedicated teen advocates, participate in Rianna's Race, a special 5K run and 1-mile awareness walk. The event, organized by Northampton DECA Club members Ava Clapp and Sophie Burkhart, along with their adviser Tara Mrazik, aimed to increase awareness about domestic violence in memory of 16-year-old Rianna Glass and her mother Rosalyn Glass. The race raised funds for Turning Point Lehigh Valley and drew support from 200 participants, including many students from Northampton High School.

Teen dating violence is a widespread issue affecting far too many young individuals, making events like Rianna's Race crucial for community awareness. Through our presence at this event and many others throughout our community, Turning Point emphasizes the importance of recognizing the characteristics of a healthy relationship. We believe that students should be equipped to understand what a healthy relationship looks, feels, and sounds like. Through events, initiatives, and educational programs, we remain hope to help create a safer and more informed environment for the youth in our community.

Illuminate the Holidays with the Spirit of Empowerment

As we approach the holiday season, let's join hands to make a positive impact on the lives of survivors of Domestic and Intimate Partner Abuse. The Spirit of Empowerment is a guiding light that inspires us to bring joy and support to those who have overcome adversity.

How You Can Make a Difference:

Donate a Gift Card:

Gift cards provide survivors with the flexibility and autonomy to choose items that suit their immediate needs. Whether it's for groceries, clothing, or other essentials, your contribution empowers survivors to regain control over their lives.

Make a Toy Donation:

For families healing from the impact of abuse, the holidays can be an opportunity to create new, joyful memories. By donating toys, you're not just providing a gift but also helping to restore a sense of normalcy and happiness for children who have experienced trauma. Items to consider: Journals, Legos, Warm Blankets, Fidget Toys, and Headphones.

Donate to Our Wishlist:

Every item on our Wishlist has been carefully selected to address the unique needs of survivors. From practical necessities to items that bring comfort and joy, your contributions can make a significant difference in the lives of those rebuilding after abuse.

The Power of Your Support:

Your generosity is a beacon of hope, demonstrating that our community stands united against domestic and intimate partner abuse. Together, we can make this holiday season brighter for survivors and show them that they are not alone.

How to Contribute:

Visit our ways to give page to find details on how to make a donation. Your support, no matter the size, is a meaningful step toward creating a world free from abuse.

Thank you for being a beacon of hope.
