Nearly Everyone With

Mild Cognitive Impairment Goes Undiagnosed

Millions of older adults likely have minor memory issues that can later become dementia. But only a fraction of them are diagnosed early enough for new treatments to stand a chance.

CELIA FORD - SCIENCE - NOV 13, 2023

Millions of people over the age of 65 likely have mild cognitive impairment, or MCI—minor problems with memory or decision-making that can, over time, turn into dementia. But a pair of recent studies both concluded that 92 percent of people experiencing MCI in the United States are not getting diagnosed at an early stage, preventing them from accessing new Alzheimer’s treatments that may be able to slow cognitive decline if it’s caught soon enough.

Dear Friend of OPICA,

As I turned on the office lights yesterday, reflecting on the past year at OPICA, a wave of gratitude washed over me. The journey we've shared has been filled with remarkable moments, and I wanted to take a minute to express my heartfelt appreciation for your continued support.

From the unforgettable Forget-Me-Not luncheon, where we celebrated the remarkable Lori Erickson, VP of Casting at CBS, to the joyous chocolate-tasting event that brought smiles to all, the year has been marked by achievements and shared happiness.

Amid the challenges posed by the pandemic, we successfully tested our staff and members weekly for COVID, ensuring a safe and secure environment for all. More importantly, we've made a positive impact on countless lives every day, week after week. It's been nothing short of magical.

One highlight that stands out is the heartwarming article by Steve Lopez in the Los Angeles Times, featuring the inspiring stories of Mannie, Rose, and OPICA. The outpouring of responses from those touched by our mission is a testament to the vital role we play in times of need, making a real difference in the lives of families. If you haven't had the chance to read Lopez's article, I invite you to do so Here, or revisit it to relive the inspiring narrative.

As we embrace the holiday season and approach the year's end, I

want to extend a special invitation to you. This is the perfect time to

consider making a tax-deductible gift to OPICA. Your contribution will enable

us to continue our mission of bringing joy, support, and compassion into the lives of those we serve.

Your generosity has been the cornerstone of our success, and we

are profoundly grateful for your ongoing commitment to OPICA. Thank you for

being an essential part of our community.

Wishing you a joyous holiday season and a wonderful New Year.

With gratitude,

Craig Fleishman

Advancement Director
