Foundation Spotlight: New Mini Grants Program Funds Success! | |
|
This fall, the ECC Foundation Board of Directors approved a new Mini Grants program that would help fund new program initiatives or recently eliminated items from departmental budgets. The Mini Grant program offered ECC faculty and staff an opportunity to secure funding for up to $5,000 for innovative projects that enhance student learning. $100,000 was earmarked to support creative ideas that would positively impact El Camino's campus environment.
Twenty-five projects were awarded funds to help promote academic excellence and student success.

El Camino's sixth annual State of the College occurred on November 15th where guests learned how El Camino College’s vision for the next ten years is integral to shaping the workforce of the future.
ECC's industry partners play an important part in providing students the real-world experience of working in the industries of their dreams. These innovative partnerships transform economic futures and build career prosperity and wealth for students who our future workforce.

Alumni Spotlight: Maria F. Salazar Rivera of Northrop Grumman | |
|
A graduate of El Camino College, Maria F. Salazar Rivera is a current student at Cal Poly Pomona working to obtain her bachelor of science in Mechanical Engineering. While at El Camino, Maria participated in the 8-week pre-apprenticeship program at Northrop Grumman in Redondo Beach and was ultimately hired by the company. As a technician, Maria works on electrical and mechanical assemblies, antennae, and creates structures for space craft, among other projects. Maria is currently a Mechanical Technician 2, Mechanisms & Sensors at Northrop Grumman Space Systems and was one of the industry alumni speakers at the 2024 State of the College.
Maria earned numerous associate degrees while attending El Camino including Pre-engineering, Science, Mathematics, Chemistry, Automotive Repair and Collision, Physics, and General Education with an emphasis on Arts and Humanities. As a first-generation immigrant, Maria arrived at age ten from El Salvador with limited English skills and the drive and motivation to advance her educational goals. A graduate of Leuzinger High School, Maria began attending El Camino as a senior while participating in the Upward Bound Math and Science Program. Maria's outlook on the future of the workforce is best communicated when she stated, “Together, we can empower the next generation of skilled professionals, strengthen our workforce, and build a brighter future for everyone. At the end of the day, we all depend on each other to keep our society afloat.”

Athletics Spotlight: Head Football Coach Lindheim Named Coach of the Year and 14 Players Selected to All-League Team | |

Head coach Gifford Lindheim was named the 2024 National Northern League Coach of the Year and 14 players were named to the All-National Northern League Team.
Lindheim earned his second SCFA Coach of the Year award at ECC and seventh overall. The Warriors went 7-3 during the regular season and 6-1 in league play to clinch the Warriors' first league title and SCFA Regionals berth since 2018.
In addition, the Warriors had 14 players selected to the All-League team with seven players making the first team and seven appearing on the second team.

Joshua Long (TE), Leivi Semaia (OL), Jaggar Tavai (DT), Kaleb McCutcheon (LB), Ky'yin Arrington (LB), and Elijah Brown (CB).
SECOND TEAM (Three Offensive, Four Defensive)
Aufaga Peapea (C), Charlie Adams (OL), Elijah Holmes (WR), Brett James (S), Cooper Dileva (K/P),Thomas Liava'a (DE), and Latrell Cannon (U).
