Won't You Be My Neighbor
There's a new school in town
(Goodyear, AZ) – On October 1, the Agua Fria High School District proudly hosted the Cornerstone Ceremony for its newest school, Goodyear High School. A cornerstone ceremony is a traditional event symbolizing the official start of construction for a significant building, the placement of a cornerstone representing the foundation and future of the project. The event marked an important milestone in the district’s continued commitment to providing exceptional educational opportunities in the Goodyear community.
Mayor Pizzillo spoke about the new high school's significance in supporting the city’s ongoing growth and development while the West Valley Mavericks were recognized for their invaluable contributions to the community at large.
In honor of the West Valley Mavericks’ positive impact on the local community, Goodyear High School’s mascot has been named “Mavericks," symbolizing the group’s dedication to improving the quality of life for children and families across the West Valley.
Goodyear High School is located at Cotton Lane and Van Buren in Goodyear, and at full capacity will serve up to 2,000 students, starting with an initial class of 400 freshmen in Fall 2025. This project is part of the Agua Fria Union High School District’s commitment to expanding educational opportunities in response to community growth.

The mission of Lutheran Social Services is to stabilize people during crisis and transition, build a foundation where people can thrive, and preserve dignity and respect for the most valuable.
Lutheran Social Services provides rent and utilities assistance to Goodyear residents. Homeless services are also provided to unhoused individuals in the Goodyear area.
Lutheran Social Services has a need for churches and volunteers to support our Interfaith Homeless Emergency Lodging, I-HELP program. I-HELP is a unique, cost-effective program that uses what churches have in abundance (space, volunteers, the desire to help the stranger) to provide overnight emergency shelter to those experiencing homelessness and case management to help them move from crisis to stability. I-HELP currently operates in the Northwest and Southwest Valley
