Texas lawmakers propose high-speed rail linking Dallas, Austin and San Antonio

With the Texas legislative session starting in less than 50 days, one Texas lawmaker hopes a new bill will finally connect the state through a high-speed rail line. Texas Rep. John Bucy III filed House Bill 483, which would require the Texas Department of Transportation to partner with a private entity to construct, maintain and operate a high-speed rail line connecting Dallas, Austin and San Antonio along the Interstate 35 corridor. Read More

Average rate on a 30-year mortgage in the US rises for fifth straight week

With the election in the rearview mirror, and personnel and policy decisions coming into focus for the incoming Trump administration, markets absorbed inflation data and elevated future risks. Inflation, which was a critical issue during the election, ticked higher in October as the Consumer Price Index (CPI) posted a 2.6% year-over-year growth rate. Overall, prices since the start of 2020 are up 20.2% β€” the largest spate of inflation in almost five decades. Due to higher construction costs and other supply-side factors, housing sector inflation continues to be a driving factor for the CPI.  Read More

In a major win for NAHB members on Friday, the Eastern District of Texas issued a nationwide injunction in a coalition lawsuit NAHB filed challenging the Department of Labor’s 2024 Overtime Rule. As a result of the ruling, the salary level for determining overtime pay eligibility for salaried employees β€” categorized as executive, administrative or professional workers β€” has been lowered to the pre-2024 level of $35,568. Read More

In November we also had the pleasure of celebrating our Board Member, Trey Summers with Hogan Homes, on receiving the honor of Life Director at the Texas Association of Builders Fall Meetings. Trey has been actively involved on a state level for 7 years! Trey was also honored for his service to TAB. Trey advocated on behalf of our industry in front of the Senate Committee on Business and Commerce, regarding rising insurance rates for homeowners and home builders.


Last month our Staff attended mixers hosted by our members Ferguson Bath Kitchen & Lighting and Hogan Homes, along with celebrating NAHB's Inaugural Staff Appreciation Week!


We are looking forward to closing out the year with a bang!
