MISSION: Genesee County Prevention Coalition (GCPC) executes innovative strategies and unites communities in preventing substance misuse and promoting mental wellness throughout Genesee County.
The Genesee County Prevention Coalition maintains regular office hours Monday through Thursday 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. If you need assistance outside of these hours, please call 810-285-9047 to make arrangements. Our primary goal is to maintain access to prevention services and resources for our community through the Prevention Portal. Please reach out to us if we can be of assistance in providing information and support for addressing substance misuse and mental health concerns.

Save the Date: Youth Advocacy Training | |
The Genesee County Prevention Coalition in partnership with the Flint Public Health Youth Academy will be hosting a Youth Advocacy Training on January 28, 29, and 30, 2025 from 5:30 – 7:30pm, at the Gloria Coles Flint Public Library.
What: Youth advocacy training helps young people develop the skills they need to advocate for social change in their community on issues that are important to them.
Who: Youth Advocates identify and address the needs and concerns of young people and empower others to become active and engaged members of their communities. Any Genesee County youth aged 15 – 18 is invited to attend the training.

Do you live or work in the Burton, Davison, Grand Blanc, Goodrich, Atlas areas in the Southeast region of Genesee County? If so, are you interested in providing your opinions and/or helping us plan the next GCPC Townhall Event? This event will provide community members the opportunity to learn about the impact of underage drinking within their community, participate in adult and youth discussions about substance use and mental health, speak directly to local leadership, help shape prevention efforts, share information about safety programs and services, and learn about resources in the community. The Partners in Prevention Portal is an online portal, within the GCPC web-site, designed to connect Genesee County youth and their caregivers to preventative services in the community. By registering your program or service in the portal, the end user will receive direct access to your organization and services. December Awareness Events | |
All of December is National Impaired Driving Prevention Month which raises awareness of the hazards that driving while under the influences of alcohol and other drugs. Parents should talk time to talk with children about what to do in a situation where a driver could be impaired. Preparing to have conversations early and often can have an impact on decisions kids make, make sure they feel comfortable to call an adult. Read this blog from SAMHSA The Gift of Sober Driving to learn more.
December 5th is National Communicate With Your Kids Day, which showcases the importance of having early and often conversations with kids regarding underage drinking and other drugs. The “Talk. They Hear You.” Discussion Starter Video can help highlight way parents and caregivers can begin these all-important conversations.
December 11th is National App Day, and technology allows you to keep prevention information and resources right at your fingertips. Our “Talk. They Hear You.” Mobile App has prevention resources and even Screen4Success is available on demand.
December 25 is Christmas Day, an ideal day to spend time with family and engage in important conversations. The "What Parents Are Saying" podcast provides different opportunities available during the holidays to discuss the risks of underage drinking and other drug use. Tune in to our podcast episode Parenting Through the Holidays to hear other parents’ experiences.
December 31 is New Years Eve a day for families to celebrate the end of the year and the beginning of a new one. Parents can take this time to discuss their expectations regarding not using alcohol and other drugs. Prepare parents for important conversations using the 5 Conversation Goals fact sheet. You can also download and share our “New Years Resolutions” social media posts to help parents set goals and expectations with their kids this New Year.
