The Alberta Land Institute 

 

The Alberta Land Institute (ALI) is an independent research institute based at the University of Alberta.  

 

They are committed to research that supports and enhances land use policy in the province of Alberta and beyond. ALI’s work focuses on the changing landscape and the ways that planning and policy design can ensure the long-term sustainability of Alberta’s agricultural sector, its water and its natural areas.  

  

2024-25 Call for Proposals 

 

The deadline for receipt of applications is JANUARY 30, 2025. Applications can be forwarded to albertalandinstitute@ualberta.ca


The entire application, including the application form, personal data forms and any supplementary material, should be provided as a single PDF file. We expect that successful applicants will be notified by FEBRUARY 28, 2025. 

  

Applicants (i.e., Principal Investigators) must be eligible to apply for Tri-Agency funding (i.e. CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC) through their academic institution.

City Scholars Student Symposium

The City Scholars Student Symposium was recently hosted at the University of Lethbridge. The symposium was a collaborative effort that celebrated the achievements of students from the University of Lethbridge and Lethbridge Polytechnic in partnership with the City of Lethbridge and the Prentice Institute for Global Population and Economy.

Recent Presentations


Prentice Institute Affiliate, Dr. Richard Larouche was recently invited to give a presentation for the Southern Alberta Council on Public Affairs in Lethbridge.


Titled "How important is independent mobility for children? Click here for more details.

Dr. Ivan Townshend presented at the Economics Society of Northern Alberta on December 5. His presentation, titled “The Intra-Urban Geography of COVID Funding Relief in Calgary: A First Look” addressed the following questions:

  1. To what extent is there and unequal geography of COVID-19 financial relief in Calgary, Alberta?
  2. What are the social/demographic traits of neighbourhoods that are associated with the observable patterns?
  3. Can COVID relief funding be seen as another manifestation of intersectional inequality, and marginalizing forces in the city?
