The Government of Canada has withdrawn Federal Methane Regulations in Saskatchewan as of January 1, 2025.
Saskatchewan will continue its own emissions management under The Oil and Gas Emissions Management Regulations, supported by a renewed agreement with the federal government for the next five years.
Regulations effective in 2025 include:
• Lower venting limits for oil wells and facilities.
• Expanded leak detection and repair requirements for larger facilities.
• Phased elimination of emissions from natural gas-driven pneumatic devices at older
facilities.
• New facilities must use non-emitting alternatives for pneumatic devices.
For more details, refer to the updated Directive PNG036: Venting and Flaring Requirements.
