The Grace and Courtesy of Giving & Receiving

When we teach children about grace and courtesy, we nurture the foundation of a compassionate society. In our Montessori classrooms, we observe young children, even toddlers, helping and expressing kindness without being asked. When the toddlers move to the Early Childhood environment, the older friends are keenly aware that part of their work is to assist incoming friends. Altruism is an inherent part of the Montessori philosophy.

Grace and courtesy are modeled in every classroom at St. Andrew's. During this season of giving, we invite you to join in modeling service to others, especially to those less fortunate. Below are two opportunities to consider so children may experience the joy of giving and not only receiving.

The Giving Manger Tradition

The story helps families shift the focus of Christmas back to giving. The book set includes straw, a manger, and a baby Jesus. A piece of straw is placed in the manger for each kind deed or act of service performed. On Christmas Day, the Baby is placed in the manger filled with service and love. [Learn more]

MAM Toy Donation Drive

The Memorial Assistance Ministries, MAM, Christmas Share Program, a ministry of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church brings holiday joy to hundreds of children. Our students are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys to their class room by December 1. Please see gift ideas by age and gender here.

Friday, December 6

10 AM -11 AM

Children are invited to wear winter pajamas to ride the trackless train around the parking lot. Grown-ups are welcome, but not required to join the fun.

If you choose to attend you will be responsible for your children while you are on campus. Everyone will enjoy warm cocoa afterwards.

Friday, December 20

11 AM -12 PM

The sanctuary opens at 10:45 am for seating. If your child sees you and prefers to sit with you, please let them, as large events like these can be overwhelming for young children.

Join us afterward for a tea party and photos with St. Nicholas in the second-floor parish hall.
