The FAA is beginning preparations for its 2027 National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS), which requires every public-use airport to provide an accurate count of based aircraft before the end of the year. These verified records help the FAA plan for general aviation growth, evaluate runway and airfield needs, and determine an airport’s eligibility for future federal funding.

To be included as a based aircraft, the FAA requires that an aircraft must:

  • Spend at least six months per year at the airport
  • Be operational (capable of taking off and landing)
  • Be airworthy, with a current FAA airworthiness certificate

Because these counts directly support HYI’s ability to justify federally funded airport infrastructure improvements, it is important that our based aircraft data is accurate and up to date. All information collected is shared exclusively with the FAA and used solely for federal planning and funding purposes.

To streamline the annual update process, we have launched a new online portal where aircraft owners can create an account, enter their tail number(s), and make updates anytime throughout the year as aircraft are added, moved, or sold.

We are now rolling this system out airport-wide and ask that all aircraft owners create an account and enter their based aircraft information by December 12. This will ensure we have time to verify entries and update the FAA system ahead of the federal deadline.

Thank you for helping us keep our FAA records accurate and current.

It’s lease renewal time at San Marcos Regional Airport! Please keep an eye out for an email from DocuSign with your new agreement.

Leases cannot be renewed without current insurance documentation on file, so please be sure your certificate of insurance is up to date. Insurance documents can be sent directly to our insurance email address.

San Marcos Regional Airport has officially transitioned to a reserved ramp parking system. All ramp spaces are now leased or reserved, with the exception of the transient parking area in front of the FBO, which remains available at no cost for short-term visitors.

If your aircraft is currently parked on the ramp and you do not yet have a parking agreement, please contact Airport Management as soon as possible to get one in place.

We still have space available to accommodate additional based aircraft, and we’re happy to help find a reserved spot that fits your needs.

This update marks an important step toward maintaining an organized, safe, and well-managed airfield while ensuring fair and consistent use of airport facilities for everyone.
