President's Message

Dear ASVCP Community,

It is holiday season – time to unwind and to spend time with loved ones. Happy Holidays!

I would like to express a heartfelt welcome to our new board members –

Dr. Ashleigh Newman (ASVCP President-Elect),

Dr. Samantha Schlemmer (ASVCP Secretary),

Dr. Kendal Harr (ASVCP Treasurer-elect), and Dr. Samantha Evans (ASVCP first-year board member). It is the work of these wonderful volunteers that drives this organization forward.

It was great to see many ASVCP members at the 2025 ACVP Annual Meeting in New Orleans. A huge thank-you to the Regulatory, Industrial and Toxicologic Affairs Committee (RITAC) for an amazing ASVCP Premeeting Workshop! And a huge thank-

you to Dr. Johanna Rigas, third-year board member, for organizing the ASVCP Mystery Session this year. It was a huge success and >90% of our survey respondents indicated it was their favorite session. This leads me to the ASVCP future meetings survey - thank you for taking the time to respond. Your input was valued and critical in determining the format of future ASVCP meetings. Overall, more than 70% of respondents indicated that they prefer a separate ASVCP meeting. Based on the survey feedback, the ASVCP Executive Board unanimously voted not to sign the MOA (memorandum of agreement) with ACVP for the 2026 ACVP Annual Meeting. This information was shared with our membership on November 26. What does this mean? Clinical pathology content will still be organized and provided by ACVP at the ACVP 2026 meeting, but ASVCP will not be involved in generating that content. Instead, we plan to offer other clinical pathology educational options such as more online CE opportunities (i.e., RACE credit approved webinars) in addition to our regular Online Rounds. We will also consider an in-person event, likely at a different time of the year than ACVP’s meeting. We believe a combination of online and in-person events will better serve the educational needs of all our members including those who had travel concerns (~ 27%) or scheduling conflicts (~ 45%) this year and could not attend the

2025 meeting. It will also allow us to expand on veterinary laboratory professionals-oriented sessions – the lack thereof at the 2025 ACVP meeting was mentioned frequently in our survey.

We will start planning for these events now – stay tuned for

updates.

The year is winding down. I would like to take this President’s Message to thank everyone and each of you – it is the work of the Executive Board, ASVCP Committees, Veterinary Laboratory Professionals, resident liaisons, and our members that drives ASVCP’s mission to improve animal and human health by advancing quality standards, research, and education in veterinary clinical pathology. If you would like to be more involved in promoting veterinary clinical pathology, visit https://www.asvcp.org/page/ASVCP_Committees to learn more and share your ideas. Please consider donating to one of ASVCP’s many initiatives – Greatest Needs, Online Rounds, and Share The Future.

Thanks for being a valued ASVCP member and Happy Holidays!

Get To Know Your ASVCP Committee:

Technology & Innovations Committee (TIC)

The ASVCP Technology and Innovations Committee (TIC) was re-established in 2025 to help guide the Society’s vision for digital advancement, data-driven tools, and emerging technologies in veterinary clinical pathology. Our mission is to evaluate, support, and implement technological initiatives that enhance education, diagnostics, and member resources across the ASVCP community.

What We Do

  • The TIC focuses on identifying current and future technological needs and developing sustainable solutions for ASVCP members. Our responsibilities include:
  • Exploring and assessing digital tools, platforms, and workflows that advance veterinary clinical pathology
  • Supporting ASVCP committees and membership in adopting innovative technologies
  • Developing partnerships with organizations positioned to host or support ASVCP technological initiatives
  • Leading the society’s long-term strategy for digital content accessibility, digital case infrastructure, and technological growth
  • Providing guidance to the Executive Board on opportunities and challenges involving technology and innovation

Current Major Initiative: ASVCP Digital Case Bank (WSI Repository)

In 2025, the TIC focused on one major initiative: establishing a long-term Whole Slide Image (WSI) Digital Case Bank Repository to support Mystery Slides, resident education, and high-quality digital case access for ASVCP members.

This year, the committee:

  • Finalized the Proposed Partner Benefits and System Specifications document
  • Drafted and approved a formal Request for Proposals (RFP)
  • Distributed the RFP to potential partners and the ASVCP membership for additional leads
  • Began reviewing submitted proposals from companies and institutions interested in collaborating with ASVCP

The next phase will involve evaluating proposals in detail, inviting selected groups for presentations, gathering committee feedback, and ultimately recommending a long-term partner to the Executive Board. This repository will serve as a sustainable, member-exclusive digital case resource for years to come.

2025 TIC Members

  • Francisco Conrado (Chair)
  • Samuel Vincent Neal
  • Manaswini Reddy
  • Carolyn Grimes
  • Nathan Bollig
  • Janice Cruz Cardona
  • Sarah Beatty
  • Andrea Santos
  • Mara Varvil
  • Kristin Fisher (Former Executive Board Liaison)
  • Samantha Evans (Incoming Executive Board Liaison)

We are grateful for the time, expertise, and enthusiasm of our committee members as TIC helps chart the technological future of ASVCP.
