President's Message
Dear ASVCP Community,
It is holiday season – time to unwind and to spend time with loved ones. Happy Holidays!
I would like to express a heartfelt welcome to our new board members –
Dr. Ashleigh Newman (ASVCP President-Elect),
Dr. Samantha Schlemmer (ASVCP Secretary),
Dr. Kendal Harr (ASVCP Treasurer-elect), and Dr. Samantha Evans (ASVCP first-year board member). It is the work of these wonderful volunteers that drives this organization forward.
It was great to see many ASVCP members at the 2025 ACVP Annual Meeting in New Orleans. A huge thank-you to the Regulatory, Industrial and Toxicologic Affairs Committee (RITAC) for an amazing ASVCP Premeeting Workshop! And a huge thank-
you to Dr. Johanna Rigas, third-year board member, for organizing the ASVCP Mystery Session this year. It was a huge success and >90% of our survey respondents indicated it was their favorite session. This leads me to the ASVCP future meetings survey - thank you for taking the time to respond. Your input was valued and critical in determining the format of future ASVCP meetings. Overall, more than 70% of respondents indicated that they prefer a separate ASVCP meeting. Based on the survey feedback, the ASVCP Executive Board unanimously voted not to sign the MOA (memorandum of agreement) with ACVP for the 2026 ACVP Annual Meeting. This information was shared with our membership on November 26. What does this mean? Clinical pathology content will still be organized and provided by ACVP at the ACVP 2026 meeting, but ASVCP will not be involved in generating that content. Instead, we plan to offer other clinical pathology educational options such as more online CE opportunities (i.e., RACE credit approved webinars) in addition to our regular Online Rounds. We will also consider an in-person event, likely at a different time of the year than ACVP’s meeting. We believe a combination of online and in-person events will better serve the educational needs of all our members including those who had travel concerns (~ 27%) or scheduling conflicts (~ 45%) this year and could not attend the
2025 meeting. It will also allow us to expand on veterinary laboratory professionals-oriented sessions – the lack thereof at the 2025 ACVP meeting was mentioned frequently in our survey.
We will start planning for these events now – stay tuned for
updates.
The year is winding down. I would like to take this President’s Message to thank everyone and each of you – it is the work of the Executive Board, ASVCP Committees, Veterinary Laboratory Professionals, resident liaisons, and our members that drives ASVCP’s mission to improve animal and human health by advancing quality standards, research, and education in veterinary clinical pathology. If you would like to be more involved in promoting veterinary clinical pathology, visit https://www.asvcp.org/page/ASVCP_Committees to learn more and share your ideas. Please consider donating to one of ASVCP’s many initiatives – Greatest Needs, Online Rounds, and Share The Future.
Thanks for being a valued ASVCP member and Happy Holidays!
