Season's Greetings, Somers!

Looking Back on 2025 and Looking Ahead to 2026

As we look forward to the New Year, it’s wonderful to reflect on just how busy and amazing 2025 was for the Somers Library. None of this would be possible without our incredible staff, who continue to make the library a true hub of the community. From hosting over 400 people at our Summer Reading Kickoff with Bubble Bus and Ghostbusters Day, to reviving our annual book sale, and curating both our collection and the Book Sale Corner, the Elephant’s Trunk, our staff have been at the forefront of every success.

We also want to extend our sincere gratitude to the Library Board of Trustees and the Friends of the Somers Library for their continued support. Your dedication helps make everything we do possible and strengthens the library’s role in our community.

To continue offering these wonderful programs and services, funding remains essential. Did you know you can support the library and its offerings in several ways? Donations can be made directly to the library, to the Friends of the Somers Library, or through initiatives like “Giving Tuesday.” Contributions help fund programming, events, and new materials—including books, Library of Things items, museum passes, and more. This Giving Tuesday also marks the start of the Friends’ campaign to fund a new reference desk for our children’s room. Beyond programs and materials, funding allows us to care for the building, support staff, and make necessary improvements—truly a circle of support that benefits the entire community. You can find more information on how to contribute on our website, and we’ll also be sending an email with key details. We are deeply grateful for the community’s ongoing support.

Some quick updates for the coming year:

  • Teen Room renovation planning is progressing well, with a projected completion by fall 2026.

  • Our Museum Pass collection has been updated, and the reference team is preparing them for the new year.

  • We will continue expanding our collection and strengthening partnerships, including with the Somers Library in Somers, CT.

We have many exciting plans for 2026 and can’t wait to share them with the community.

Finally, a reminder that our new newsletter format will launch in January and will be sent quarterly. Weekly program emails and other updates will continue in between. You can also connect with us via Facebook, Instagram, and our website for the latest news and information.

Wishing you happiness, good health, and all the best this holiday season and in the New Year!

Kind regards,

Jessica Veissy, Library Director

A Letter from the Friends of the

Somers Library

The Friends of Somers Library board member, Susan Cody, has been named to the Westchester County Senior Hall of Fame! Many of you know Susan, as for more than 30 years she has organized the entertainment programs featured at the library. She also co-founded the Race Amity program, now in its seventh successful year.

The Senior Hall of Fame recognizes and honors those adults who selflessly give of themselves to others, building a stronger and more compassionate society. Susan’s long commitment, as a volunteer, to enhancing the cultural and educational opportunities in Somers, is why the current Friends board members nominated her for this honor. She will be feted at an award luncheon on December 5, 2025.

Thank you, Susan Cody, and congratulations!
