DECEMBER 2025 NEWSLETTER

As we approach the close of 2025, I want to begin with a heartfelt thank-you to this remarkable community. Everything we have accomplished is made possible by you! Every new resource, every awareness campaign, every partnership, every patient, survivor, caregiver supported - all of this is realized because of all of you who care so much about this cause.

This community's donations make it possible for us to advance this cause every day. Every gift, sponsorship, and monthly contribution helped us expand education, improve access to specialist care, and reach patients and caregivers who would otherwise be overlooked and feel lost. We do not take that trust lightly, and we are deeply grateful for the belief you place in our mission.

I am equally grateful for something that cannot be measured in dollars alone: the way this community continues to show up for one another. To see more of my fellow survivors and caregivers step in to help others facing these rare and advanced abdominal cancers in their toughest moments. To see advocates of all stripes join in amplifying our message of hope and opportunity to access the right care.

These demonstrate that the Abdominal Cancers Alliance is much more than just an organization. It is a movement of people who refuse to let anyone face these cancers alone, and that collective mission is our greatest strength! Because of you, we continue to grow. Thank you for helping us finish 2025 as an extraordinary year. As we look ahead to 2026, I thank you for being part of this journey and for helping turn awareness into action and hope into tangible support.

With deep gratitude and wishes for a warm holiday season,

Bo Plantz

Executive Director

Updates from the Alliance

Webinar Recap: Understanding Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) and Surgical Menopause

We recently hosted a conversation exploring the vital role of female and male hormones in health and well-being across life’s transitions, including surgical menopause (such as following Cytoreductive Surgery with or without HIPEC). Dr. Tammy demystified hormone imbalances, sharing evidence-based insights into how hormones affect the body and why hormonal harmony is essential for long-term health.

Whether you’re experiencing changes, seeking balance, or simply curious about how your body works, this recorded discussion offers practical insights and strategies to support your health journey. We invite you to check out the recording and learn more at your own pace.

New Resource!

Nutrition for Abdominal Cancer Patients

Proper nutrition is essential for cancer patients. The challenges that come with diet and nutritional balance are many and well-known to so many of us who face these cancers. Cancer, and treatments for cancer, can have outsized and swift impacts on our health, including muscle and tissue loss, weight loss/gain, compromised immune systems, numerous imbalances, and a multitude of ways to just not feel good. This new resource provides an overview for best practices that all abdominal cancer survivors and patients should know about!

A Tale of Three Patients - Mat's Story

Hi, I'm Mat. My cancer story is really the story of three people. My mom Claire, my wife Deb, and me. And I think each has some bearing here. My mom was my best friend. Unfortunately, she had one flaw....

We want to give others hope! We all have a story to tell, and we would be honored to share yours. Join us in raising awareness and send us your story today!

Research Spotlight

Why Some Patients Respond Better to Pre-Surgery Chemotherapy

This study focused on people with ovarian cancer who are given chemotherapy prior to surgery with the goal of achieving a complete cytoreductive surgery. It reinforces the importance of individualized care, and that pre-surgery chemotherapy can be a good first step to improve outcomes, especially for those whose tumors are likely to respond.
