| Getting Out in the Community in November | |
I had the profound honor of attending the Annual Veterans Day Ceremony at the VANC facility. A heartfelt gathering that truly embodied gratitude for our nation's veterans. The event featured an inspiring keynote by retired U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman Luis E. Fonseca Jr., who shared raw, powerful stories from his 22 years of service, including his heroic actions in the Battle of An Nasiriyah that earned him the Navy Cross, while advocating for mental health awareness and suicide prevention. The morning was elevated by a musical performance from singer Eve Nasby and thoughtful reflections from Chaplain Edwin Handley. Wrapping up with a communal lunch, it was a reminder of the enduring impact of service and the importance of community support. I left inspired to carry that spirit forward.

I attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for Oceanside's new Psychiatric Health Facility at 3996 Vista Way, a collaborative project between the County of San Diego, Tri-City Medical Center, and Exodus Recovery aimed at providing crucial inpatient mental health care for adults in crisis. The event buzzed with community leaders and optimism as we celebrated this much needed addition to North County's behavioral health resources, complete with a tour of the modern, patient focused building designed for short term stabilization and recovery. It was inspiring to see local efforts addressing gaps in mental health access, and I left hopeful for its positive impact on residents.

I attended the Tri-City Hospital Foundation's Grand Gala, an annual fundraiser that brought together community leaders and supporters to bolster essential healthcare services at Tri-City Medical Center, including the much needed emergency department redesign. The event featured lively entertainment like dueling pianos, heartfelt patient stories, and engaging activities such as a bourbon pull, culminating in an impressive total of over $600,000 raised! A huge thank you to the Tri-City Hospital Foundation team and all the volunteers whose passion and tireless planning made the evening both unforgettable and deeply impactful; your dedication to our community’s health truly shines.

The Oceanside Chamber of Commerce hosted another Rising Star Student of the Month Awards. This event remains one of my absolute favorite events to attend each month. I always leave feeling deeply inspired by the incredible stories of our students who excel academically and personally while overcoming significant adversity. A huge congratulations to this month’s outstanding honorees: Elijah Ross-Robinson of Surfside Academy, Luis Molina Monroy of Oceanside High School, Natalie Liserio of El Camino High School, Jordan Mignosi of Coastal Academy High School, and Tristan McGurgan of Pacific View Charter!

As the Council liaison to the Utilities Commission, I attended the November meeting where we tackled critical infrastructure advancements for our community. Highlights included robust presentations on the Amendment 2 to the Orion-TC Joint Venture Agreement for the Mesa Garrison Lift Station and Force Main project, alongside the award of the Downtown Water Sewer Replacement Phase II Project to Burtech Pipeline, Inc., for $27 million to enhance our aging systems. The Commission forwarded strong recommendations to City Council for approvals on these contracts and amendments, ensuring reliable water and sewer services amid growing demands. We also received the Sewer Report for October 2025, you can find that here. I look forward to the next meeting in January.
