FEATURED ARTISTS

LINDA HARLAN WHITE

I have been an artist for over 40 years. I have an A.A. Degree in Art from El Camino College where I took every art class they had to offer - Ceramics, Photo, Printmaking, Enameling, Graphic Art, Glass Fusion, Acrylic and Watercolor. However, I found my forte in China Painting on Tiles. Of course, I couldn't have chosen a more tedious medium for my art; the tiles must be fired up to 20 times in a kiln. Each firing achieves the next stage of development in the painting, bringing out the depth of color and detail, a little more each time.

In the past I have entered my art in juried shows and consequently have earned 23 awards - six in the 1st Place category, four 2nd Place awards, three 3rd Place and six Honorable Mention along with four special awards. DOGWOOD TILES.COM

JOYCE JOHNSON

From my earliest memory, I have enjoyed creating things. I was very fortunate when attending grade school to have a traveling art teacher.

Each week when she visited, there would be a new project. We learned something about all the various disciplines. I would then take what had been taught, expand and change it, and make it my own.

Upon entering college, I could take two or three art classes every day. I was in heaven. At that time, my goal was to become an art teacher to pass on my love of art to children. However, that was not to be. I fell in love, married and moved to Illinois. After a year in the Midwest, we returned to California, and I returned to classes while raising a family. I completed my B.A., but with three children in tow, I became a stay-at-home-mom but still creating projects. I also enrolled in additional art classes just for the enjoyment. In 1980 the local Parks & Rec offered a stained-glass class, and the rest is history. I had found my niche.

ART TALK

“The artist is not a different kind of person, but every person is a different kind of artist.” – Eric Gill

ARTISTS ON THE MOVE

LISA COOK

Forest Fawn necklace with aquamarine crystal beads.

GRAEME GALE

Rustic Christmas Ornaments available at the Mountain Arts Gallery.

JOEL HENSLER

Two 20" x 30" limited editions, manipulated photos on canvas from my trip to Dublin, Ireland (the land of Guinness and Jameson).

Dubliners are some of the nicest people on earth. The Bleeding Horse Pub is mentioned on page 711 of James Joyce's novel, "Ulysses". The building was demolished except for one wall during the siege of Dublin by the Cromwell New Model Army. The pub was built with the still standing 2 story wall in 1649, 376 years ago.

The placement of a casket shop next to a vegan restaurant on Camden Street begs the question of practicality: "If someone expires in our party, how close is the nearest casket shop?"
