Deck the Halls With Care

Do you have a live Christmas tree? It's essential to keep it properly maintained. The Lee's Summit Fire Department provides some important tips to keep you and your family safe this holiday season.

  • Cut the lower two inches off of the fresh tree stump so the tree can absorb water.
  • Mount the tree in an appropriate base away from heating vents and fireplaces.
  • Water the tree frequently.
  • Test holiday lights before placing on the tree and look for frayed wires.

January Water Rate Increase

Effective Jan. 1, Lee’s Summit Water Utilities customers will see a 5% increase in water volume rates and monthly base charges for water and sewer. Water and wastewater rates are evaluated annually with a five-year forecast to meet operational costs and infrastructure renewal needs. Some of the most significant cost drivers are reinvestment into the infrastructure and rate increases from water suppliers and sewer treatment facilities.
