Important Info from the Police Chief:
|
|
Avoid telephone scams: Criminals impersonate IRS employees and call taxpayers in aggressive and sophisticated ways. Imposters claim to be IRS employees and sound very convincing. They use fake names and phony IRS identification badge numbers. They’re demanding and threatening – and do not reflect how the IRS handles enforcement matters.
Note that the IRS does not:
- Demand that people use a specific payment method, such as a prepaid debit card, gift card or wire transfer. The IRS will not ask for debit or credit card numbers over the phone. For people who owe taxes, make payments to the U.S. Treasury or review IRS.gov/payments for IRS online options
- Demand immediate tax payment. Normal correspondence begins with a letter in the mail and taxpayers can appeal or question what they owe. All taxpayers are advised to know their rights as a taxpayer.
- Threaten to bring in local police, immigration officers or other law enforcement agencies to arrest people for not paying. The IRS also cannot revoke a license or immigration status. Threats like these are common tactics scam artists use to trick victims into believing their schemes.

The Police Department is in need of
volunteers to become Auxiliaries:
|
|
What is an Auxiliary Officer? Auxiliaries are non-sworn volunteers that help the Police Department throughout the year. They help with parades, races, or special events that happen in the community. Auxiliaries do a wide variety of tasks including directing traffic, walking around events to maintain a presence, and helping people in need. They also help with municipal court proceedings and can do police ride-alongs. During ride-alongs, Auxiliaries patrol the Village with Police Officers and get a front row seat on how law enforcement works.
What else is Involved? Four times a year, the Police Department holds training nights for the Auxiliaries. Auxiliaries learn about a variety of topics including Defense and Arrest Tactics, Operating While Intoxicated Arrests, Crisis Intervention, and Use of Force. This is great introduction for people pursuing a career in law enforcement and for people that are interested in the Police Department's processes.
How do I get started? An application is all that's needed to begin the process to become an Auxiliary Officer. Volunteers should be is at least 18 years old, but the Police Department would consider a 17 year old on a case-by-case basis. A volunteer would have to pass a background check and come in for an interview. The Police Department provides a uniform and any equipment needed. After that, Auxiliaries are ready to help the community!
If you are interested in helping your community and the Whitefish Bay Police Department as an Auxiliary Officer, please email
Sgt. Straub
or call 414-962-3830.
