The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph

December 31, 2023

Message from the Pastor

Dear Parishioners & Friends,

Today is the Feast of the Holy Family. Family is not about “what” we have in our life, but “who” we have in our life. The transition from “what we have” to “who we have” makes great families. There is a story about two Americans answered an invitation from the Russian Department of Education to teach morals and ethics (based on biblical principles). They were invited to teach at prisons and a large orphanage. About 100 boys and girls who had been abandoned, abused, and left in the care of a government-run program were in the orphanage. They relate the following story in their own words:

“We told them about Mary and Joseph arriving in Bethlehem. Finding no room in the inn, the couple went to a stable, where the baby Jesus was born and placed in a manger. Throughout the story, the children sat in amazement as they listened trying to grasp every word. Completing the story, we gave the children three small pieces of cardboard to make a crude manger. Following instructions, the children tore the paper and carefully laid strips in the manger for straw. Small squares of flannel were used for the baby's blanket.”

FAITH FORMATION

IT TAKES A COMMUNITY!

We are so grateful to see many children and adults finding ways to grow faith in our parish. We are thankful for all the catechists who are dedicating their time and sharing their talents to be on the journey with our children, catechumens, and candidates. To serve them the best, we need more catechists to help in our growing ministry. Our OCIA and CLOW programs need team members to serve. If you are fully initiated Catholic, would like to share your faith, learn more about the Church Teaching, and accompany those God sends to our community, please serve with us to make St. Martin of Tours a new home for those who come to learn and worship with our community.

To help with OCIA, we need you every Sunday from 11:00 AM to 1 PM.

To help with the Children Liturgy of the Word, we need your 8 Sundays a year to proclaim God’s Word to the little ones.

All new catechists will get the opportunity to take online courses from the Diocese for free!

Please prayerfully consider helping in the Catechetical Ministry. Contact Merry Kaelani for further information or scan this QR code to start your incredible journey in the ministry that Jesus started!

The community of St. Martin of Tours is praying to support our catechumens and candidates in deepening their relationship with Christ while they are on their journey in preparation to receive Sacraments of Baptism, First Eucharist, and Confirmation.

Please pray for all catechumens and candidates who celebrate the

Rite of Acceptance/Welcome.

We need help to supervise the children in the CLOW session. We will create a signup form for parents to participate in this joyful ministry." We need 2 parents for each session.
