OUR MISSION:
St. Rita School inspires students in Pre-Kindergarten through grade eight to achieve academic excellence in a safe, nurturing and faith-filled Catholic environment.
We prepare students to be morally responsible, innovative thinkers who, in today’s technology-guided global community, live and share the Love of Christ.
FROM THE DESK OF MRS. TIEZZI

Dear St. Rita School Parents,

I’m sure many of you were taken by surprise Monday when school was dismissed early due to the inclement weather forecasted for the afternoon.  So was I!! We quickly scrambled to send out 3 messages (via email, text, and phone call) so you were made aware of the early dismissal time. The local TV stations were also notified of the change in dismissal time. I did the same things Tuesday morning to announce the delayed opening.  If you did not receive a message from the school Monday or Tuesday via text, email and phone call, please notify the school office so that we can update your contact information. Winter has just begun and I’m sure there will be other inclement weather notifications and we want you to have the information as soon as possible. Please understand that we follow the decision made by the Hamden Public Schools when delays, cancellations and early dismissals are made.

As a courtesy to our parents Monday, the aftercare program was open until 3:00 P.M. only. The decision to open or close aftercare is situational depending on the severity of the weather.  It is always important to have a back-up plan available should inclement weather be forecast and aftercare not be available. Please share the back- up plan with your child so he/she will not become anxious. Our before care program does run on a delayed opening day. The program opens at 7:00 A.M. for a cost of $15.00.

This past Sunday we began the new church year with the liturgical season of Advent. Advent is a time to focus on what is important spiritually, practically, personally, and charitably, so we can enjoy the feast of Christmas even more.  Mrs. Landino and our student council presented a beautiful prayer service to the entire student body yesterday morning. It was a great way to start our Advent journey.
For the past few years, we have had a St. Rita School family Christmas tree in our foyer. Each school family is asked to loan us one of your family ornament’s which will adorn our school tree. All ornaments will be returned after Christmas. Thank you for allowing this tradition to continue.

Please reserve Tuesday, December 17, for our annual Nativity Pageant and Christmas Concert. The Nativity pageant involves students in grade kindergarten through grade 3 and takes place at 1:30 P.M. in St. Rita Church. The nighttime Christmas concert is for students in grades 4 & 5, band students and chorus members. That concert takes place at 6:30 P.M. in church.

Thank you for entrusting your child/ren to our care. Enjoy this beautiful winter weather.

God Bless,
Mrs. Tiezzi

Help decorate our school family Christmas tree! A few years ago we began a new traditional of a school family Christmas tree. Each family is asked to share a Christmas ornament for our tree. These ornaments will be returned after Christmas. The ornament should have your family name on it and can be handmade or bought. Please send your ornaments in to help decorate our school family tree.

During Advent time we prepare for the birth of Jesus at Christmas. Each week during Advent a family lights the Advent wreath at all of the Masses. We are looking for a family for each Mass (Saturday at 4:00pm, Sunday 7:30, 9:00, 11:30) for the four weeks of Advent (12/1, 12/8, 12/15, 12/22). If you are interested in having your family light the Advent wreath at Mass, please let Megan Zinn know as soon as you can at  divine.mercy.ore@gmail.com ! Let me know the date and Mass you would like to volunteer for. First come, first serve! It is always a lot of fun for the children, and is a wonderful way to get them involved during the Advent season.

St. Nicholas invites you to a PARTY in his honor, December 6 at 6:00 PM in the DPC, St. Rita Church.  Families with children are welcome to come and learn about this generous bishop who became a saint.  There will be songs, games, activities and a potluck meal to share.  Please RSVP to Megan Zinn at 203-281-7522 or  divine.mercy.ore@gmail.com  with number attending and what you will be contributing to the potluck by December 4.

Does Your Company Offer Volunteer Grants?
Volunteer grant programs, also known as “Dollars for Doers” programs, are corporate giving programs created to encourage volunteerism in communities where employees live and work.
Through these programs, companies provide monetary grants to organizations where employees volunteer regularly.

Please take a moment and ask if your employer participates in a Volunteer Grants Program. Your time and talent at St. Rita School could turn into dollars for our school! Questions? Feel free to contact Joanne Bruno at  jbruno.stritaschool@gmail.com .
The Box Tops for Education program is changing the way we can earn cash for our school

Over the summer, participating brands began to change their packaging from the traditional Box Tops clip to the new Box Tops label. Going forward, instead of clipping from packages and checking expiration dates, all Box Tops will be earned digitally by scanning your receipt. The Box Tops for Education team has worked hard to build a NEW-and-improved, user-friendly Box Tops mobile app , available now. The new app features state-of-the-art technology that allows you to scan your store receipt, find participating products and instantly add Box Tops to our school's earnings online.

If you still have traditional Box Tops clips at home, make sure to send them to school. We will still earn cash for all clipped Box Tops until they expire. Better yet, you can “double dip” during the packaging transition by clipping traditional Box Tops AND scanning your store receipt containing participating products.
