The department's interdisciplinary approach and perspectives are reflected in the composition of its faculty and in its programs of study. The department has strong collaborative relationships with other academic departments and works closely with the University's Office of International Programs in providing study abroad opportunities for its students and in offering a range of programming designed to further the internationalization of the campus. The Department also houses the Center for Holocaust, Genocide & Human Rights Studies which promotes scholarly activity and educational programming to further understanding of the Holocaust and of other crimes against humanity across the world. The college oversees the only non-Israeli archaeological dig in Jerusalem. For more information about the Department of Global, International & Area Studies, see http://gias.uncc.edu/.
