SPECIAL PENNSYLVANIA AUDUBON COUNCIL WEBINAR
“Guidelines for Municipalities: Developing Bird Friendly and Environmentally Responsible Utility Scale Solar”
7:00 PM, TUESDAY, DECEMBER 6,2022

Dear Pennsylvania Audubon Chapter Leaders,

The Pennsylvania Audubon Council Renewable Energy Committee is presenting an important webinar: “Guidelines for Municipalities: Developing Bird Friendly and Environmentally Responsible Utility Scale Solar” at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, December 6, 2022. The webinar will be presented via ZOOM by Tom Kuehl, Allegheny Plateau Audubon Society, Laura Jackson, Juniata Valley Audubon Society, Susan Murawski, Presque Isle Audubon, and Judy Stepenaskie, Wyncote Audubon Society. These Renewable Energy Committee members have been at work for nearly two years to publish a document with a focus on the guidelines for responsibly sited solar projects. Next Tuesday evening’s presentation is intended specifically for our Pennsylvania Audubon chapter leaders. The Renewable Energy Committee wants feed back from our chapters before presenting this program to other audiences!

We encourage representatives from each of our Pennsylvania Audubon chapters to register and participate in this upcoming webinar. Please invite other interested members of your board to participate. If your chapter has a Conservation or Advocacy Committee then consider extending an invitation to your committee chair(s). This webinar will feature the “White Paper” the Renewable Energy Committee has written based on their extensive research. This webinar is very timely, as there will be important initiatives and funding to support the development of solar installations across the Commonwealth and the nation. There will be a critical need for fossil free energy production that is responsibly sited and operated! This webinar on December 6th is intended especially for our Pennsylvania Audubon Chapters as our chapter network constitutes the “eyes and ears’ for developments in our “Home Rule” Commonwealth.

The webinar will provide information to Pennsylvania Audubon Chapters on: a) proper siting criteria for renewable energy projects to ensure that critical bird areas, migration routes and important wildlife habitats are protected, and b) methods to minimize and mitigate the impact of renewable energy projects on birds and other wildlife.
WE NEED YOUR UPDATED CHAPTER CONTACTS!

The Pennsylvania Audubon Council needs your most recent and updated contacts to add to our DRUMMER recipient list. Many chapters are working on or have submitted your “annual reports” to the National Audubon Society. PLEASE SEND A COPY OF THE LIST OF CHAPTER LEADERS THAT YOU FILE WITH YOUR REPORT. Many chapters have their elections for officers and directors on a calendar year schedule. Please share your updated list. We welcome requests for any names and contacts from your chapter to be added to the mailing list. Send any requests to: paauduboncouncil@gmail.com
