Pick Up and Drop Off Safety Concerns

Please read the following reminders about pick up and drop off below. In our second month of school. Our children's safety in this process depends on everyone's efforts to achieve a smooth pick up and drop off.
  • Slow down
  • Be aware of school busses that may be picking up/dropping off kids from our neighborhood from other schools. Please follow all appropriate guidelines (ie: MN law requires drivers to stop least 20 feet from a school bus that is displaying its flashing lights and stop arm. This applies to drivers behind and approaching from the opposite direction).
  • Please do not park in the carpool lane. If you need to exit your car to pick up your child, please park elsewhere. Parked cars are confusing to other drivers, hold up general traffic, and contribute to a less organized and less safe pick up procedure.
  • Remember to pull forward
If grandparents or other adults are picking up your child/ren, please share this information with them as well so that ALL adults picking up and dropping off are aware of our procedures.

Join Us for the TCGIS Wintermarkt

Then you should join us for our student-run TCGIS  Winter  Market on  Thursday, December 14, from  2:30-4:00pm (you read that right,  4pm!).

Please bring cash with you. We'll have 3 banks open (one in the foyer and two on the Middle School floor, run by adults) where you'll be able to exchange real money into tickets. You can donate unused tickets or exchange them back into USD afterwards.

Each class gets to decide what to do with their profit, whether to use it for a fun class activity or donate it.  The money initially invested into the business will be reimbursed to the young  entrepreneurs  afterwards .

**Please avoid parking on Van Slyke, and please keep the carpool lane on Como Ave. open as well. Thanks for your cooperation with this!
Lost and Found to be Donated

All lost and found items will be donated during Winter Break. Please stop by between now and December 20 to look for any lost items.

Brr...It's Cold Outside!

Winter has arrived! Each student must have these 5 (five) items to enjoy warm outdoor play.
  1. Boots
  2. Snowpants
  3. Jacket
  4. Hat
  5. Gloves/mittens
All students go outside (barring health concerns) for recess. We use the NWS chart in the link below to determine whether students are outside or inside for recess. Feel free to read our  Cold Weather Recess, Cancellation Policy, including tips for staying warm outdoors.

Please make sure your student has these items so they can stay warm and dry outside.
Influenza Information

If your child experiences any respiratory flu-like symptoms such as  chills, body aches, fever, and headache,   as described here, please notify TCGIS at  [email protected] since we are required to report confirmed cases to the state. Other symptoms that may be present are  cough, runny or stuffy nose, and sore throat.

A child who has had flu symptoms may return to school after the fever has been gone for 24 hours, without the use of a fever reducing medicine, and is healthy enough for routine activities.

Any time a student is home sick, please email both the office and his/her teacher(s) or call the school office at  651-492-7106  to report the reason for absence, including the type of illness. On the fourth day of illness, an excuse from a medical professional is required.
Hour of Code

On December 4 students and parents gathered for  Hour  of  Code in celebration  of Computer Science Education Week.  Hour   of   Code  is an  introduction to computer science designed to demystify coding and show that anyone can learn programming basics. Participants played coding puzzles and programmed their own artwork, games, and animations. Did you miss  Hour  of  Code? Put on your own  Hour  of  Code together as a family. You can find resources here.
FireBears Robotics Team Visit December 11

Roseville Area High School's  FireBears  robotics team has volunteered to visit TCGIS on Monday December 11th from 3:30-4:15 to do a demo with their robots. Students will be able to hear about what robotics is like at high school, ask questions, and even get some hands-on experience playing with robots! This is a great opportunity from a well-respected robotics team. The  FireBears  went to the world championships in 2016 and have earned recognition for their robot from Igus (a German corporation). Three TCGIS Alumni are on the team: Erik, Lexie, and Robert Rauer.

The event is open to students in grades 4-8th. Please sign up  here by  December 8th. Contact Esther Neu at  [email protected] with any questions.
FIRST Lego League Robotics

Nine 7th and 8th grade teams participated in the FIRST Lego League Robotics tournament on Sunday. All teams performed commendably! We are proud of all of them. Crazy Coconuts won the "Judges Choice Award" -- congratulations! River Rescuers won the "Core Values" category and Aquaducks won "Team Spirit". Both River Rescuers and Aquaducks will advance to sectionals in January. Well done to all 7th and 8th grade teams! Click here for photos of the Crazy Coconuts, River Rescuers, and Aquaducks.
