CHRISTMAS FLOWERS

Dayspring will once again be filled with beautiful poinsettias on Christmas Eve. Each plant is given as a memorial to, or in honor of, a special loved one or friend. In addition, gifts may also be made to UMOM’s Shelter for the Homeless in lieu of a plant.

These gifts will be listed in our Worship Bulletins, projected before services on Christmas Eve, and online. The deadline is 12 noon, December 17. Order online HERE or using one of the forms in the narthex.

DIY MESSIAH SING-ALONG

Calling all singers and musicians! Join the Dayspring Choir, members of Euphony, and pianist Nathan Arch, this Friday, December 15, at 7pm, in this do-it-yourself sing-through of Handel’s MESSIAH. There’s no rehearsal involved, just come! You can sing or play an instrument (strings, oboe, bassoon, trumpet, timpani) or just listen. Soloists will lead us in the solo movements. This is a wonderfully informal and intimate way to experience one of the great works of Western music. Don’t miss it! (Admission by donation; $10 minimum suggested)

TEMPE COMMUNITY CHORUS

Tempe Community Chorus presents “A Journey Through the Season” this Saturday, December 16, at 4pm. The 110-voice chorus, under the direction of Cary Burns, will delight you with a program full of holiday songs and pop songs, with a little jazz mixed in, as well as a few surprises. Tickets may be purchased HERE or at the door.

CHILDREN'S CHRISTMAS MUSICAL

The Secret of Snowflake County, this year’s children’s Christmas musical, is Sunday December 17 during the 10am service. Please note, there will be no Sunday school this day so we can all show our support for the children, however, nursery care will be available for children 8 and under if needed.

BLUE CHRISTMAS

Our Blue Christmas Service offers a different way to look upon this season – a time when it can sometimes be difficult to envision hope and salvation. Yet, we have the promise of God’s everlasting love, in the birth of the Christ Child, and we are reminded that God will never forsake us even in the hard times that we experience.

This service will be held at Dayspring Tempe on Sunday, December 17 at 4:00 p.m. We will join together for a quiet, contemplative, taizé-style Blue Christmas service to remember that the light of God shines upon and through us even in the darkness. Please join us for an hour of Music, Scripture, Meditation and Silence.

HANDBELLS AT THE DESERT BOTANICAL GARDEN

The DayspRingers Handbell Choir will perform at the Desert Botanical Garden's Noches de las Luminarias on December 15 and 16 from 5:30 – 9:30 p.m. They will be performing in the Webster Auditorium. Tickets are available at dbg.org and are highly recommended, as these events usually sell out.

SHEPHERDS NEEDED

Shepherds (formerly called ushers) of any age are needed for Sunday morning 10:00 services and also for the 8:00 and 10:00 Christmas Eve services. Duties include: arriving 15 minutes before the service, welcoming people as they enter the narthex, assisting with paper or digital bulletins as needed, closing the doors as the service starts, opening the doors again before the service ends, and assisting with communion. This is an easy way to serve our church - and a great way to meet new people! Please contact andrea@dayspring-umc.org for more information.

CHRISTMAS EVE DIAPER COLLECTION

This year, during our Christmas Eve Celebrations, we will be collecting diapers, especially larger sizes 3 & 5, for AZCEND (Chandler Community Action Program). Please join us in spreading joy and meeting practical needs this festive season. How fitting that we collect diapers as we celebrate the birth of a child!

ADVENT STUDIES

It's not too late to join one of our Advent Studies!

  • Our pastors are offering a hybrid weekly Advent Study on From Cosmos to Cradle by Bruce Epperly on Mondays (6:30pm) and Thursdays (10:00am) beginning December 4, both in-person in Tempe (Palo Verde Room) and via zoom.
  • Linda Hurlburt leads a study at Friendship Village on Tuesdays at 10:00am on the book Heaven and Earth, Advent and the Incarnation by Bishop Will Willimon.

FAMILY PROMISE

Dayspring is hosting four families this week - four moms, three dads and eight children ranging in age from 2 months to 15 years old. One family went from living in their car the night before to our comfortable and safe room at Dayspring with showers nearby and they expressed deep gratitude. Heartfelt thanks to the many helping hands and donations from the Dayspring congregation that make this ministry possible!
