Lunch Updates

This is a friendly reminder that the deadline to order lunch is Wednesday the week before to allow us time for payment, processing and placing orders with our vendors.

Other deadlines:
December 18th: deadline to order lunch for January 4th and 5th and for orders for the whole month of January
January 3rd: deadline to order lunch for the week of January 8th

"YAY Lunch"
We are happy to announce that we will be piloting an alternative lunch program through a new, local company called " Yay Lunch." This company will work with local vendors, such as Mezah and Feast!, to provide healthy, locally sourced lunches for our students. The pilot will not start until early March and will not replace our current lunch program this year. We will provide more information during the winter months. Christina Liva, the founder of the company, will be attending the January 9th PPF meeting to talk about the program.
National Geographic Bee Coming!

Plans are being made for the annual Peabody School National Geographic Bee competition. Students in grades 4-8 are invited to test their skills in geography and enjoy learning about their world’s landforms and cultures. Grade level competitions will be held next week, and the school wide competition, which will determine Peabody’s winner, will be held January 11th at 1:30 in the gym. Our Peabody winner will take a qualifying test for the state bee to be held April 6th.

Students may begin studying now by going to the National Geographic Study Corner !

Please contact Julie Lacy if you have any questions.
World Peace Game

Our fifth grade students will be participating in the World Peace Game this spring and we are in need of your help!

As we prepare to offer this to our students, we need your help to build the board. Please see the sign-up genius for pieces needed for us to play the game and if you are willing donate anything, please drop it off in the main office. Used pieces are more than acceptable. Thanks!

This Week in Middle School...

Eighth Grade Government Trip

Plans are currently being finalized for the eighth grade trip to Washington DC this spring. The goal is to leave Peabody on Friday May 4th at 7:00 am via coach bus, and arrive at the Capitol before 10 am. We have a tour arranged of the Capitol building through Senator Warner's office. Following lunch, we will cross the street and visit the Supreme Court building. Justice Alito's office has arranged this personal tour, and there is a possibility we may have a brief visit with his Honor. The afternoon will be spent at either the Newseum, or another museum (e.g. African-American, Native American) depending on access and schedule. We will then have an early dinner and make our way to the Washington monument. We'll finish the day with a guided "twilight" walking tour of the National Mall. The coach bus will pick us up by the Lincoln Memorial and return us to Peabody. It promises to be a big, full, educational and entertaining day. We'll keep you posted on any developments.
2017-2018 Annual Fund Update

Many thanks to everyone who has already donated to the Peabody Annual Fund for 2017-18! We are extremely grateful for your contributions, and appreciate your support of Peabody and our mission. Our goal is 100% participation from all faculty/staff and families! We hope you will help us get there!

Just a reminder that those donations received prior to December 31, 2017 receive a Peabody School credit card holder for your cell phone as a thank you!!!
