President's Message: By: Sven Fickeler, 2021 ACC St. Louis President, and Bunzl Senior Corporate Counsel The Last Hurrah!

I can’t believe it’s that time of the year again. Holiday season is upon us, budget season is in full swing, the end of the year crunch, contracts that need to be finalized by year end, and on and on! But wait, that also means my time as Chapter President is also running out. Man, that was fast and furious, but I have to admit, a lot of fun and very rewarding. It may sound weird when I say this isn’t really about me or who the Chapter President is in a given year, but that it is rather about the commitment and passion of the Chapter Committees, their leadership, dedication and hard work. It is true though. Nothing would happen without that engagement of those members serving on the numerous committees that make up our Chapter. So YES(!), this is a call for member engagement.   Become an active and engaged ACC member! Trust me, you’ll love it. We all work hard in our jobs, and being involved in the Chapter means extra time and effort, but it is so much fun to be part of such a good group of people with a passion for what we do that you don’t want to miss out. Besides, we are probably the most successful and awarded mid-size ACC Chapter in the nation, having been awarded another Chapter of Distinction Award in 2021, and we like to keep it that way (and brag a little bit, too).   Read more...

DOJ's New Sheriff in Town Raises the Bar on Corporate Compliance Deputy AG Comments Mark Sea Change in DOJ Criminal Prosecutions By: Catherine Hanaway, Jeff Jensen, Gregg Sofer, Scott Glabe, Tim Garrison, Steve Holtshouser, Matt Diehr, Robert Peabody and Michael Martinich-Sauter   In recent remarks given to the American Bar Association’s 2021 White Collar Crime National Institute, Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco made clear that the Department of Justice (DOJ) is changing its approach to the enforcement of corporate crime. Recalling the DOJ’s takedowns of executives at WorldCom, Qwest Communications, Adelphia, Tyco, and Enron at the beginning of her career, Monaco commented, “I’ve experienced how—when given the right resources and support including dedicated agents—prosecutors can uncover and prosecute the most sophisticated corporate criminals.” Read more...

ACC St. Louis Nominating Committee Report November 2021

The 2021 Nominating Committee (Brian Parsons, Sven Fickeler, Chrissy Teske, Toni Douaihy, and Vikas Sunkari) is pleased to announce that it has completed the evaluation process and is prepared to submit for approval its proposed 2022 Board of Directors and Executive Committee.  The Nominating Committee would first like to thank Tamee Reese for all of her contributions to ACC St. Louis over the years as she steps down from the Board. While no one can replace Tamee, we are excited to invite Lisa Savoy, Aaron Mutnick, and Chris Wittenauer to join the Board this upcoming year. Lisa and Aaron have been attending Board meetings as Committee Chairs over the past year, and Chris has been very involved in the Membership Committee that is he is now poised to lead. Missouri Association of Corporate Counsel is 2021 Recipient of Gold Chapter Award

For the fifth consecutive year, the ACC STL received the 2021 Gold Chapter of Distinction by the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC), which is an award bestowed on the best chapters in the country. The award recognizes an individual Chapter’s accomplishments in areas including programming; membership recruitment; diversity, inclusion and equity; and governance and operations.   “This is an incredible honor for the St. Louis chapter, and it is a reflection of the dedication, support, and commitment of our members. The last two years have brought unique opportunities to engage with our members. Our board frequently asks members what they want from their chapter, and we implement their advice into innovative programming, CLEs and social gatherings,” said Sven Fickeler, 2021 ACC STL Chapter President, and Senior Corporate Counsel, Bunzl Distribution NA .   In addition to the Gold Chapter of Distinction awards, the ACC STL has also received the national ACC 2020 Innovation Award for its Diversity & Inclusion Internship Program, and the ACC 2018 National Membership Award.
