It’s been a busy, productive year on the advocacy front for the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia. As a final Advocacy Update for 2021 we wanted to briefly recap some notable wins.

  • We successfully nominated five individual properties and one thematic historic district to the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places - and we are in process on many more, including a local historic district recognizing Christian Street’s Black Doctors Row in South Philadelphia.
  • We successfully supported an amendment to waive or reduce parking requirements for the adaptive reuse of historic properties
  • We successfully lobbied for an increase in funding for the Philadelphia Historical Commission

As the calendar turns to 2022, we’ll continue to advocate for the responsible and equitable stewardship of our historic built environment – in all neighborhoods – and continue pursuing advancements in policy and protection for historic properties and historic communities large and small.
