Business Leaders Volunteer for Chamber Board 
Nine business leaders from a variety of Goleta industries have agreed to join the Chamber's board of 25 to help set the course, mission and policy direction of the area's largest business association.

Please join us at the Annual Membership Meeting on J anuary 20, 2016 from 5-7 p.m. at FLIR Systems a s we thank our outgoing members: Peter Brown, Steve Nicholson, Eric Onnen, Bill Terre, Emma Torres, Jim Youngson and Craig Zimmerman.

Goleta Experiences Record-Breaking Tourism Economy in 2015
The numbers are in and Goleta continues to shine as a visitor destination. The Goleta Valley Chamber of Commerce  welcomes the Dec. 10 figures, with year-to-date data showing continued growth in number of visitors to the area, the amount they spend and the overall lodging industry revenue on the Goleta coast.  
 
The announcement comes from Visit Santa Barbara's Travel Outlook, held Dec. 9, where year-to-date STR data was presented to the group. STR is a global provider of metrics and research to the hotel industry. 
Goleta Chamber Leaders Ponder Commuter-Rail Program Progress
Goleta is scheduled to get a commuter rail program in fall 2016 and the Chamber is working to connect businesses with the process.
 
The Chamber gathered business leaders and City representatives last week to hear an update on the rail progress. Gregg Hart, a spokesperson for Santa Barbara County Association of Governments along with Michelle Greene and Rosemarie Gaglione from the City of Goleta spoke about the project and their organization's priorities.
 
This was the first meeting on this topic and the Chamber plans to continue to follow the progress of the project and
how business and government can work together on this much needed service.
 

Ready, Respond, Recover: Preparing Your Business for El Nino
The Goleta Chamber of Commerce is working to help businesses prepare for the upcoming El Nino.

A Roundtable focussed on the upcoming El Nino was held on November 18th. The Chamber has created a page on our website with important links, such as the Goleta Flood Map so businesses can see if they are in a flash flood area.  

The Chamber will be updating the site consistently and will be sending any important updates via email.  Don't wait until the storm hits to get prepared. 
CalChamber Releases List of New Employment Laws
Affecting Businesses in 2016

The California Chamber of Commerce released the list of new employment laws scheduled to take effect in 2016 or earlier that will have an impact on businesses in California.
December Ribbon Cuttings

Smart and Final Extra! has opened their doors in Hollister Village Plaza located at 7090 Hollister Avenue. The Chamber and City representatives cut the ribbon on December 8th to celebrate the grand opening. The new location boasts the quality fresh produce of a farmers market, the low prices of a discount grocer and the large club-size products of a traditional club store.

The Chamber joined the the United Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Barbara County (UBGC) and representatives from Cox to cut the ribbon on the new Cox Technology Center at the Goleta Boys & Girls Club. The Technology Center was made possible by The James M. Cox Foundation. UBGC was awarded at $13,000 to install a new computer lab to benefit the youth of Goleta.

Dos Pueblos High Senior Nathan Alvarez Named Goleta Teen of the Year
Dos Pueblos High School senior Nathan Alvarez was crowned the  2015 Goleta Teen of the Year at a ceremony Sunday night at  Glen Annie Golf Club.
"I'm humbled," Alvarez said, shortly after he was announced the winner by "Mr. Santa Barbara,"  Larry Crandell. "I am lucky to be part of this group of students."
