A message from CECMP Director, Neva Bandelow

Dear CECMP Partners:
December 1st marked my one-year anniversary as the Director of the California Early Childhood Mentor Program. As I reflect on the past year, I have been thinking about the strength and impact this program has held for nearly 35 years. It is worth repeating, 35 Years. How rare! The CECMP has many people to thank for the extraordinary thought and leadership that went in to the designing, developing and delivering of the quality ECE supports provided to our State’s students and workforce. The Program was jointly developed by Chabot College and the Center for the Child Care Workforce, formerly the Child Care Employment Project. It began as a pilot project in 1988 at Chabot College, where we are currently housed. It was funded through the United Way of the Bay Area and the David and Lucille Packard Foundations. In 1991, eight philanthropic agencies contributed funding to the program. In 1992, the California Department of Education funded the CECMP, through the Federal Child Care and Development Block Grant, supporting its growth. By 2007, it had grown from 9, to 95 Community Colleges.
Today, we are grateful to the California Department of Social Services for continuing the program, restoring lost funding and providing unwavering support. Along with our funders, there are our founders, whom I personally want to recognize: Directors: Peyton Nattinger and Linda Olivenbaum; and for carrying the torch: Director Mary Anne Doan. I also want to share my gratitude to those who supported me directly through my transition year at CECMP: Linda Olivenbaum, Mary Anne Doan, Michelle St. Germaine, Laura Reno, and Catrina Hughes. The program has grown stronger because of each of you. The CECMP staff, Brooke Giesen and Vanessa Dilks, are outstanding in their roles. Their partnership means a great deal to me. To Vice President Dale Wagoner, Dean Robert Nakamoto, Angela Castellanos and Ulyssa Rivas, it is pleasure to have your support and guidance. Absolutely last but not least, a profound thank you to each of you. Who without your advocacy, passion and implementation, none of this would be possible.
Warmest Holiday Wishes and all the best in the New Year,
Neva

We have began to successfully receive completed DocuSign contracts from Community Colleges across California. We recognize that this may be a challenging new process due to the internal policies at each Community College and it may take some time.
Click below to view our previous communication sent out that outlines specific details regarding the process.
All Letters of Agreement are due March 15th.

CECMP Director, Neva Bandelow, met with previous CECMP Director, Linda Olivenbaum!
Linda began working at the California Early Childhood Mentor Program in 1996 as the Assistant Director. She later became Director of the program in 2004.
It was inspiring to be together again and for Neva to share ideas while continuing to gain insights from Linda.

CECMP goes to Washington!
|
|
CECMP Director, Neva Bandelow, and Assistant Director, Brooke Giesen, traveled to Washington, D.C to present at this year's National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) conference. Neva and Brooke presented on, "White Saviorism: How it Impacts Staff Interactions, Family Engagement, Pedagogy, and Policy."
We gleaned as much from our participants as we hope they gained from us. For example, we recognize the need to intentionally center the voices/input/participation of the BIPOC community in creating policies and procedures.
