2025 Year End Summary

As we just wrapped up another year for the Foundation, we again are truly grateful for your support, your donations as well as life-jackets. We started providing life jackets back in February 2014. Demand for these jackets has increased way beyond our dreams. Over the last 4 years. we receive requests for at least 1600 life-jackets a year. We support over 50 plus organizations in Oregon and SW Washington who manage over 200 kiosks. We had six more kiosks come on line this year!

“An empty kiosk serves no purpose!” is what we say as several of us observed years ago while we were boating or camping. That’s why we are providing life jackets to many different types of non-profits such as Safe Kids, AMR Water Rescue, River Patrols, Metro, Scouts and several other city organizations like Fire Departments.

Our goal is to make sure kiosks have life jackets. NSF is a non-profit 501c3.

With your help and generosity, in 2025 we met the demand for life jackets. Our partners forecasts are in for the upcoming 2026 season, which is over 1700 jackets being asked for. We are not able to meet this demand due to increased tariffs on Chinese goods, and the lack of funding options available this year. This is the first year where we will not satisfy the forecasted requirements. We will fall short by about 600 jackets!

The Nautical Safety Foundation needs your financial help!

Everything helps out from the smallest donations to providing us with your lightly used jackets.

This year’s funding comes from generous donations by individuals, Yacht Clubs e.g. Tyee, NOTS, boating organizations like CRYA and WOOO.

If you want to donate gently used jackets go to our website or send an email to me.

How can you help:

  • Financial support by your yacht club or individuals
  • Gather up your used life jackets (3 buckled preferred)
  • Provide us information on kiosks in need of attention

Invasive Chinese Mitten Crabs found in Willamette River near the Sellwood Bridge!

The Chinese Mitten Crab is an invasive species, and it is important that we all keep an eye out and report sightings of them and where they were found. For the complete article and more information on how to report sightings, click HERE.

Is a smaller boat in your future? As we move along the boating lifestyle the answer might be yes!

This is an excellent article about the choices available in smaller cruising boats, small sailing boats and even paddle craft that can be part of a downsizing boating life. Find the full Article Here.

Please Share your boating Stories of Interest to our team to Share with others. Club things, Community Boating Things, Personal Boating Stories. Many things are of interest so Please Share!

We can't see every club's internal communication, but we have to think some of the articles would be great information for all boaters. If you find that article of interest, please forward it to cryanews@gmail.com after getting approval to share. We can all be more informed.
