Chronic cough focused research

Pulmonary fibrosis (PF) is often characterized by a distressing, dry cough that is difficult to control and significantly impacts quality of life. There are many causes of the cough that can accompany PF.

Low oxygen levels can trigger cough in some people. People living with PF may also have an increased sensitivity to normal cough triggers like allergies and post-nasal drip. Talk to your doctor to see if there are treatments such as cough suppressants or steroid medication that might help your cough.

In addition to potential available treatments, we are seeing an increased focus on research aimed at addressing chronic cough and cough in patients living with PF. You can use the “enter words in trial title” filter on PFF’s Clinical Trial Finder tool to search for studies that are investigating cough therapies.
