Bereavement Committee at St. Brigid: A Hidden Gem
The Bereavement Committee at St. Brigid of Kildare is a large operation that pulls off an amazing feat to feed dozens of families who have funerals of loved ones celebrated at St. Brigid of Kildare.

Below is a letter of gratitude from Sister Teresa Tuite, describing the remarkable committee.

"For many years, individuals have left the funeral home or cemetery to have lunch together afterward. While the lunch offers an opportunity for those attending a funeral to eat, more importantly, it gives the opportunity to share memories and to spend time with friends and family. Unfortunately, funerals are one of the only times that some loved ones see each other, so the bereavement dinner or luncheon gives more time to be with one another during a difficult time. But one thing that individuals notice during bereavement luncheons is that people smile. They talk about the good times and they celebrate the life of their loved one who has passed on.

This happens at St. Brigid because of many people: first the parishioners of St. Brigid, through Msgr. Hendricks and Fr. Morris, offer this to the family. The 150+ people who receive a "Sign-Up Genius" notification of what is needed, and they respond by dropping off food in the morning (most of the time I never even see these most generous people). Then, under the calm and steady direction of Judy Murcer, a group of ever-faithful women arrive early and begin to set-up and prepare everything for the luncheon. Then a few more women and a couple of men arrive to clean-up. I could never thank these people enough. It all goes so seamlessly, and these wonderful people take all the responsibility off me and all the concern off the family."

If you would like to be on our call list for fruit, baked goods, salads, desserts and side dishes, please call the parish office. If you like to be part of set-up, preparation, or clean-up, we welcome your help in any way. Please call the church office or Sister Teresa for more information.

Let's Have a Little Something and Talk about Funeral Planning

It is not easy to walk through the maze of funeral planning. There are many options, many ways and many different laws to consider. There are 50 things that must be done (and probably many more). Tidd Funeral Home will sponsor a seminar to help you with all of that. Terry Thomas, a parishioner at St. Brigid of Kildare, and a licensed funeral director along with Dale Dunne, a pre-need specialist at Tidd will lead us through the intricacies of funeral planning and answer your questions.

Women's Bible Study: Messy People

Our  Women's Bible Study is entitled Messy People - Life Lessons from Imperfect Bible Heroes by Jennifer Cowart.

Every life gets messy at times. Sometimes these messes are literal, such as a house that would be easier to condemn than to clean or a child who needs a fire hose instead of a tub. But sometimes our messes are harder to see. These life messes often carry the labels of illness, conflict, depression, abuse, bankruptcy, divorce, death of a loved one, or job loss. These life-situation messes are often very painful.

During this series, we will dig into the lives of biblical heroes who were messy people, too. We meet Rahab, the prodigal son, Josiah, Mary, David and Daniel.  Through them we learn how God gives them and us power to work through the difficult moments of life.  The series includes scripture study, reflection and prayer in five daily lessons to use at home each week.  Shared reflection and a video presentation and prayer is part of the weekly group session.

High School Youth Ministry

Lord, teach us to pray is a 9th-12th grade formation year focused on encountering Jesus in prayer. Our fall formation series, Altaration: The Mystery of the Mass Revealed, will explore what happens at Mass & why we do what we do. In this series, we will dispel myths about the mass and engage curiosities, gaining perspective to participate in the mass more fully. Later in the year, we will dive into scripture and grow in confidence and ability to read and apply scripture to daily life. We will also explore the why, when, what, where, & who of prayer, including exposure to various ways to pray with scripture, art, music, movement, Saints, and more.
Jesus is present among us every day in many ways. Have you heard Him? Have you seen Him? Have you encountered Him? Respond to these questions with us this year. Come encounter Christ together.
