Merry Christmas!
Dear Parents,
Responsibility is the virtue the children will emulate during the month of December. Using “The Children’s Book of Virtues” the children will learn what the virtue is and how to be responsible.

Responsibility is something all children need to learn. By helping your child develop responsibility, you are helping him/her reach his/her full potential. Responsibility involves making decisions, being trusted, and learning to take credit for one's actions -- whether good or bad.

We all want to raise responsible children. Children will be responsible to the degree that we support them. They need to feel like they matter to the world, like their lives make a positive contribution. I am offering a few everyday tips to increase your child’s “response-ability” quotient.

Raise your child with the expectation that we always clean up our own messes . Begin by helping your child, until he/she learns it. They will learn it faster if you can be cheerful and kind about it and remember not to worry about ‘spilled milk’.

Remember that no child in his right mind wants to do "chores." Unless you want your child to think of contributing to the family as drudgery, don't "make" him do chores without you until they are a regular part of your family routine, and one that your child does not resist. Your goal isn't getting this specific job done, it's shaping a child who will take pleasure in contributing and taking responsibility.

Don’t rush to bail your child out of a difficult situation.  Be available for problem-solving, helping him work through his feelings and fears, and insuring he doesn’t just sidestep the difficulty, but let him handle the problem himself, whether it requires offering an apology or making amends in a more concrete way.

Focus on helping your child take charge of his life and support him as necessary to learn each new skill. By doing so your child will want to step into each new responsibility. Instead of your "holding him responsible," he becomes motivated to take responsibility for himself. It's a subtle shift, but it makes all the difference in the world.

Peace,
Ann T. Sarpu

LETTERS FROM SANTA
Throughout the month of December, we’re doing a fun, new program, Letters from Santa, which gives you the opportunity to win an exciting variety of prizes. For just $20, you get to choose your “Letter from Santa” from poster boards in the lobby. You could win a lunch treat, homework pass, Dress Down Day, Corpus Christi School swag, toy, new bike, or cash. Everyone is a winner as there are no empty envelopes. Please send your donation, in a clearly labeled envelope, to the office and your student can choose their letter. If you prefer, you can also purchase letters when you’re at school, perhaps for the Christmas Concert, State of the School, or when you’re picking up your student. You don’t want to miss out on the Christmas fun so don’t delay as we have a limited number of envelopes available!!
In an effort to be more environmentally friendly, we have sent out an email invitation to the 2020 Gala and are asking you to click the link to purchase tickets. To avoid triggering any paper followup, we ask that if you are planning on attending, please RSVP as soon as possible. Thank you so much for your help with our efforts!
We'd like ALL of our students to stop by Barnes and Noble in Glastonbury this Thursday. December 5th to participate in our school-wide fundraiser there. Our teachers will be hosting Storytime throughout the afternoon and we will sing a few Christmas carols at 3pm. Come and show your Cougar pride!! Each student who attends will get a free dress down day as a thank you for their participation. We look forward to seeing you there!!

It's flu season!

ALL PRE-K STUDENTS are REQUIRED to get the Flu vaccination by December 31, 2019. Forms will be sent home with the Pre-K students and please return to the school nurse as soon as your child has been vaccinated. Pre-K students must be vaccinated no later than December 31 st .

Protect both yourself and your family this season with an annual flu vaccine. CDC recommends getting vaccinated by the end of October, if possible. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body that protect against the influenza virus infection. You have the power to protect your family against flu this season by getting vaccinated!
