Monday's December Membership Meeting was dedicated to a discussion about the state of business in Dupont. We thank Bill McLeod of Historic Dupont Circle Main Streets and Colleen Hawkinson of the Dupont Circle BID for sharing an overview of their work and informing the membership about some of the challenges small businesses are facing and how those challenges are impacting the changing face of Connecticut Avenue and retail generally.
The eye-opening discussion delved into the impact of how commercial property tax increases are being passed down to struggling small businesses, the future of streateries, bike lanes, and the reasons behind the changing trends from retail to service shops and more.
We also talked about the organizations' role and insights on the issue of homelessness, park maintenance, and efforts to rally and support the neighborhood with events like Dupont Main Street's recent shopping pop up.

DCCA members expressed interest in supporting Historic Dupont Main Street's efforts to support small neighborhood business and a continued focus on finding ways to address the issue of homelessness.
- This includes DCCA's letter urging Mayor Bowser to establish and publicize indicators that would track the reduction of homelessness and provider a strong way to evaluate and asses the coordination and impact of city government and non-profit efforts. The Committee is working on a future membership meeting on this topic.

An Irish Carol Returns to Keegan
|
|
An original work by Keegan company member Matthew J. Keenan, AN IRISH CAROL is an homage to Dickens’ classic – told as only the Irish can. This comic and touching play, set in a modern Dublin pub, follows one evening in the life of David, a wealthy pub owner who has lost touch with his own humanity in the interest of self-protection and material success. But on this Christmas Eve – challenged by a voice from the past, provoked by those in the present, and faced with the reality of a lonely future – David’s life may change forever.
