Strategic Planning Meeting a Success
Twenty-four coalition supporters attended the Healthy Lifestyles - Marshfield Area Coalition Strategic Planning Meeting held on November 10, 2017. The meeting included a review of accomplishments in the previous year, Wood County health updates, and small group discussions to begin creating 2018 action plans for each of the four committees: Physical Activity, Nutrition, Community Garden, and School Wellness.

Key achievements include:
  • Improved Safe Routes to School at Washington Elementary School
  • Installation of community garden beds at senior living facilities
  • Cooking cart demonstration for Lincoln Elementary School Staff
  • More healthy eating demonstrations at Farmers Market and community gardens
Important discussions included:
  • Large group discussion on increasing coalition membership and engagement
  • Coalition involvement in Farm Tech Days
Information from this meeting will be taken to future committee meetings to finalize the 2018 action plans. If you would like to be involved in coalition work in 2018, contact George Bloome at 715-221-8400 or healthy.lifestyles@marshfieldclinic.org .
Save the Date: Local Food Expo
Join us at the 3rd annual Local Food Expo presented by Marshfield Clinic and Healthy Lifestyles-Marshfield Area Coalition on Thursday, March 15, from 3:30pm-6:30pm at First Presbyterian Church (200 S. Lincoln Ave, Marshfield).

The Local Food Expo is an educational event that allows Marshfield area farmers and food vendors to showcase their products to the community. The Expo gives community members the chance to meet their local farmers and learn of the many health, environmental, and economic benefits of purchasing local food.

This event is free, open to the public, and family-friendly. Watch for updates about the Expo in future emails or let us know you're interested in this event on Facebook.
Join a Temporary Committee for Volunteers or Funding
The Healthy Lifestyles - Marshfield Area Coalition is creating two ad-hoc committees to focus on volunteer recruitment and funding needs.

What are they?
  • These two temporary committees will support coalition programming by increasing community involvement and determining funding needs.
  • The Volunteer Committee will find ways to increase the involvement of our current volunteer pool, find innovative ways to reach out to potential volunteers, and create partnerships with other organizations throughout the community.
  • The Budget Committee will develop methods to increase funds to help support our current programs and increase their impact within our area.
How can you be involved? What is the commitment?
  • We expect these ad-hoc committees to meet only 3-4 times during the months of January and February.
  • To be a part of the budget and/or volunteer committee please contact George Bloome at 715-221-8400 or healthy.lifestyles@marshfieldclinic.org.
Put more ACTIVE into your activities
The cold months are approaching, but don't let that hamper your physical activity.
There are many ways to stay active in your homes, at your workplace, or during your normal errands. Here are a few tips to stay active inside and without changing your usual daily routine.

At Home:
  • When taking phone calls at home, stay standing or walk through the house instead of sitting.
  • Start an at-home workout plan by watching a workout DVD or YouTube video. Breaking up the workout into multiple 10 minute bouts throughout the day can be a great way to get started.
  • Include your pets, family, or neighbors when possible to help make staying active more fun and keep each other motivated!
At Work:
  • When discussing work or projects with co-workers, walk around the office or worksite whenever possible.
  • Talk to your co-workers in person instead of communicating with emails.
  • Find workouts or stretches you can do during your lunch break.
  • Find a co-worker who will do this with you and encourage you to stay active.
  • If you have a job that requires you to sit for long periods of time, find ways to standup and be active in some way every 90 minutes.
During Errands:
  • When possible, take the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator.
  • Take laps around the mall or store before you start your normal shopping.
  • Bag your own groceries and use a basket whenever possible.
  • If you have a lot of groceries to buy, break up the shopping throughout the week. By doing this, you'll avoid heavy baskets and get extra steps each day.
