Hi All:

I hope you all are doing well. It's hard to believe December will be here tomorrow.

This message covers three topics:

  1. A reminder to RSVP for the Legislative Learning Event on December 6th
  2. The Bureau of Developmental Services’ last family forum of 2022 on December 7th
  3. A learning opportunity on December 14th from the Administration for Community Living (ACL) regarding best practices for influencing the services that are included in a waiver application.

Please RSVP - Legislative Learning Event: December 6th

We've had over 10 legislators from our region say they will attend our legislative learning event next Tuesday, December 6th, from 6-8pm at the Gateways Community Services office on Canal Street in Nashua!

While we already have good representation from families (thank you!), it would be great to have more. If you would like to attend, please reach out to me at [email protected].

The Bureau of Developmental Services’ Last Family Forum of 2022: December 7th

Please help us continue the conversation with the Bureau of Developmental Services (BDS) by attending their upcoming forum on December 7th at 6:30PM in Concord. Even if you've already attended one session, it's still worthwhile to attend another.

  • What: BDS System Work Family Forum
  • When: Wednesday December 7th, 5:30-7pm
  • Where: 129 Pleasant St. Brown Auditorium Concord, NH 03301
  • Why: Learn about the Systems Work and share feedback about developmental disability services in New Hampshire

This is a great opportunity to speak directly with the State staff members who manage the service system. While a Zoom option is available, BDS encourages in-person attendance!

Strengthening Advocacy in the HCBS Settings Rule: Getting the Services You Need from the Waiver: December 14th

Wednesday, December 14, 2022 | 12:30-2:00 PM ET

Register for the webinar

The Administration for Community Living (ACL) invites you to a webinar in their series on strengthening advocacy in the Home- and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Settings Rule, Getting the Services You Need from the Waiver, on Wednesday, December 14, 2022.

The HCBS Settings Rule can improve community-based services and supports for people with disabilities and older adults for decades to come. This webinar will provide insight into one of the main strategies stakeholders can use to get the promise of the Rule into everyday life: influencing the services that are included in the waiver application.

The webinar will highlight why you should pay attention to the waiver application and what is in an application, with a focus on appendix C – Services. It will also look at what states have to put into the application and highlight best practices for commenting on your state’s waiver application.

Live captioning will be provided. A video replay and transcript will be made available following the event on ACL's HCBS Settings Rule webpage.

Speakers:

  • Jill Jacobs, Commissioner, Administration on Disabilities, ACL
  • Nancy Thaler, Senior Advisor, ACL
  • Laura Miller, Managing Attorney, Equip for Equality
