The Space Coast Blast Sled Hockey team, reigning USA Under 18 National Champions, added Under 18 World Champions to their already impressive resume, when they participated in the first-ever Youth International Sled Hockey Invitational, beating Russia for the championship.
Space Coast Sled Hockey is a competitive sled hockey team located in Brevard County, Florida. Sled Hockey is an adaptive sport for anyone not able to play stand up hockey. The players are single and double amputees and paraplegics. They are disabled veterans, adults who’ve suffered car and motorcycle accidents, and those with birth defects like spina bifida, autism and MS.
The majority of the players are from Brevard County and attend Astronaut High, Kennedy Middle School, McNair Magnet Middle, Melbourne High, Odyssey Charter and Rockledge High. Other team members are from Orange, Seminole and Indian River counties.
Due to all the medical expenses and other expenses these players endure, the goal is to create a healthy lifestyle that will support them in both physical and mental health. The World Champions are looking for corporate sponsors and donations to support the team as they continue their season.
