Coping with Loss around the Holidays
Friday, December 12- 1pm
Many of us are sad around the holidays, recalling happier celebrations with loved ones who have
since passed on. Grief about their loss can return in a strong wave during the preparations for
Thanksgiving and Christmas or Hannukah. We will take a look at grief and sadness and the
physiological toll it can take. We will also suggest ways to alleviate the worst effects of grief,
including physical and mental self-care. You will have a chance to share your own experiences
with handling grief and loss so others may benefit from your wisdom. Presenters are MJ
Henderson and Julie Yingling from A Community Together. MJ is a retired gerontological nurse
practitioner, faculty and nursing consultant, and Julie is a retired professor of communication
who has published work on final conversations.
