Prune it, Lop it, Bag it and Trash it
20+ volunteer hours for JP's "Adopt a Park"
Thirty bags,14 garbage cans, and five trips to the trash barrels later, the parklet has been pruned back considerably. Underbrush and trash were cleaned out and graffiti reported.

Twenty-two combined volunteer hours were donated by the following: Joanne Osuna, Jeanne Calhoun, Ricardo Pereyda, Joan Daniels, Erin Posthumus, Rosemary Bolza, Louie Werthmueller, Laurel-Heather Milden, and Derrick. Also were helping were two staff members from Prime Leaf, Desiree and Kelly. Thank you all!
It got warm in the park!
Ricardo just kept on rakin'.
The parklet at the east end of Edison is a deep pocket of lovely greenspace and concrete benches. Unfortunately, the dense bushes invited in the homeless who left trash and unsafe paraphernalia. It is now safe because of these volunteers. We thank you!
Erin, Rosemary, Louie and Laurel- Heather take on the center of the park and west wall area.
NOTE: The parklet is under the purview of Department of Transportation and Mobility. It is actually considered a "right-of-way". Thus the city is responsible for the heavy maintenance, but as neighbors who drive the access road have seen, no maintenance has been done by the City due to lack of staff. We asked permission to prune and clean the park--it was granted because of the city labor shortage. If you walk your dog along the access road, please take a bag and pick up the tossed beer cans and Circle K cups, etc.

You can't burn those pesky weeds!!!
The International Fire Code, which is the adopted Fire Code for the City of Tucson, prohibits open burning of any kind in the absence of prior authorization by the Fire Marshal. “Open burning” includes the practice of “torching” weeds, per the Fire Marshal and thereby violates the Fire Code. We just have to put in the manual labor for weed management. Fire in the urban environment is a bad idea…and it violates the Fire Code (Section 307, to be exact). This we found after some research and help from Ward III.
