Manufacturing Month
8th Grade Essay Contest

Essay winners from the five Oshkosh Area School District middle schools' technical education courses read their essays and won $25 in Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce gift certificates, along with an award certificate, for winning the Manufacturing Month essay contest sponsored by the Oshkosh Rotary.

Each of the five Oshkosh Area School District 8th grade technical education classes toured a manufacturer in Oshkosh during Manufacturing Month in October. The students based their writing on what they learned from the Chamber coordinated manufacturing tours to Arrowhead Systems, A.P. Nonweiler, Lapham-Hickey Steel, Jay Manufacturing, and Muza Metal Products.

On Monday, November 26th the Rotary hosted the essay winning students, their parents, teachers, principals, and employers to a celebratory luncheon. "Seeing is believing. You can't understand the opportunities available if you don't know that they are there. Career exploration tours like this afford students a first-hand view at the diverse opportunities available in manufacturing today". Patti Andresen-Shew, Director of Education and Talent Development, Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce.

What's Next? 5 Takeaways from the Midterm Elections
"Divided government does not - and cannot - mean gridlock."
That was  the message from U.S. Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Tom Donohue on a night that left each party claiming partial victory and holding control of one chamber of Congress. Senate Republicans expanded their majority while Democrats picked up more than enough seats in urban and suburban districts to take control of the House.

So what now?
