WORK READY OR NOT HERE THEY COME: A COLLABORATIVE EFFORT TO PREPARE OUT-OF-SCHOOL YOUTH FOR THE WORKPLACE

DATE: Tuesday, December 4, 2018
TIME: 2:00 p.m. EDT

Out-of-school youth who are not engaged in school or employment are more likely to engage in destructive behaviors and less likely to support themselves financially. Preparing out-of-school youth for a successful transition to the workforce is essential to ensuring a successful transition to employment and financial stability. Developing a work readiness program for this population can help to ensure workplace success. This webinar discussion will share strategies for infusing work skills into programs for out-of-school youth. Through an interactive webinar discussion, participants will learn about challenges and strategies as well as discuss cultural and economic barriers and implications.

DATE: Friday, December 7, 2018
TIME: 2:00 p.m. EDT

As one of the fastest growing companies on earth, Amazon has made it a priority to offer quality, entry-level positions that can lead to either a career in management or participation in our tuition prepayment program for a certification or associate's degree. To demonstrate our commitment to our hourly workforce, we recently increased our minimum wage to $15 per hour for all entry-level positions across the country, irrespective of location. Whether your students are looking for a long-term career or just to earn extra money, we offer full-time, part-time, seasonal, and flexible schedules for a variety of jobs in urban, suburban, and rural areas. Our basic hiring requirements are only to be at least 18 years old and have a GED ® certificate  or equivalent.

Join us on December 7th, as we discuss hourly employment opportunities and career growth at Amazon, as well as Amazon's Career Choice Program that prepays tuition for degrees in high-demand fields.

OUR BEST FROM I-BEST

DATE: Tuesday, December 11, 2018
TIME: 2:00 p.m., EST

If you have ever worked with an I-BEST (Integrated Basic Education Skills Training) program, you will know that I-BEST students fast track through both GED® testing and skills training through this nationally recognized instructional model. I-BEST students are quicker than their traditionally enrolled contemporaries to improve their basic skills in reading, writing, and math, complete their GED ® exam, and arrive at a career entry point. The downside to I-BEST is that it's expensive. Heather has taught 4 I-BEST programs and has come to realize that there are ways to replicate components of I-BEST at very low or no additional cost to your program. This webinar will look at how, by making a few simple changes, we can help our traditionally enrolled students also get the best that our programs can offer.

APP-TO-SPEED LEARNING CIRCLES IN PUBLIC LIBRARIES AND ESL/ESOL PROGRAMS

DATE: Wednesday, December 19, 2018
TIME: 2:00 p.m., EST

David J. Rosen, Ed.D., will describe English language learning circles in public libraries and ESL/ESOL programs and focus on a new kind of learning circle whose focus is helping adult English language learners to use their smartphones for English language learning. "App to Speed" learning circles use free or low-cost online apps designed for low-literacy adult English language learners who may be on waiting lists for classes or who may want to supplement their classroom English language instruction with online learning in language learning sprints in the time they have available during their busy workdays, evenings, and weekends. The webinar is for adult ESL/ESOL teachers and program managers who want to understand what learning circles are and do, how they can learn more about them, and specifically how they can organize learning circles that will help English language learners, whether currently enrolled in classes or not, to use their smartphones to improve their English. Following David's presentation there will an opportunity for questions and comments.
