ACEC Research Institute

The ACEC Research Institute is the leading source of knowledge and thought leadership for creating a more sustainable, safe, secure, and technically advanced built environment. The Institute’s mission is to deliver information and business strategies that guide and elevate the engineering industry through research, forecasts, trend analysis and academic scholarships.

Through the ACEC Research Institute scholarship portal, qualified students have access to more than 100 scholarships totaling nearly $1Million in grants, including a $5,000 NCEES scholarship specifically designated for students from Maine, various diversity and inclusion scholarships, as well as both merit and need-based opportunities. The portal will automatically match students with ALL scholarships available to them based on their completed application. Application deadlines vary, so students are encouraged to apply today! https://acecinstitute.awardspring.com/

The ACEC Research Institute, in partnership with Zweig Group, has updated its first-ever Diversity Roadmap presenting the state of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) in the engineering industry and identifying opportunities for improvement as firms work toward their DEIB goals.

Updated in fall 2024, nearly 200 ACEC member firms have participated in the Roadmap since it launched in 2023. The Roadmap offers engineering firm executives a comprehensive, data-driven tool that assesses the maturity of a firm’s DEIB program and provides actionable suggestions on how firms can make further progress.

The report is now available for download, but the Roadmap is still available for firms to use to assess their own DEIB programs.

ACEC Risk Management

The ACEC Risk Management AI and Technology Committees have drafted suggested guidelines for design professional firms in their evaluation of AI.

The purpose of these guidelines is to provide information that design professionals may take into account in order to promote responsible, professional, and ethical behavior with respect to the adoption and usage of AI in their businesses, including the design professional firm’s policies, culture, confidentiality requirements, and contracts with clients.

These guidelines do not constitute requirements, mandates, or an establishment of any facet of a design professional’s standard of care.
