Donate Today to Third World Newsreel

Third World Newsreel's mission to support and nurture media by and about people of color and social justice issues is as critical as ever, and we hope this is important to you as well.

In 2023, we successfully presented our first limited theatrical run of the work of Camille Billops and James Hatch, entitled A STRING OF PEARLS, screening at over 25 venues, across the United States and abroad, proving that independent BIPOC films could draw theatrical audiences and media attention.

We continue to serve our filmmakers and community members with free Evening Seminars. This year, we presented 19 seminars with screenings, directors’ talks, and production how-to training, including an Augmented Reality workshop, Proposal Writing, Legal Issues for Filmmakers, Fundraising, and Creative Producing. Directors including Sam Pollard, Geeta Gandhir, Jon-Sesrie Goff, Eli Jacobs-Fantauzzi, Deann Borshay Liem, Matthew Hashiguchi, and Anjanette Levert were featured with their new films, in events that, for the first time in three years, were primarily in-person.

We continued our popular Organizing and Filmmaking Then and Now events with online screenings and talks on the Unended Korean War and Black and Brown Queer Resilience in collaboration with the PrideFull Fest, and a reunion of the acclaimed activist video group, Black Planet Productions.

Our 2023 TWN Production Workshop started in March, and the group is in various stages of post-production now. Our 2022 cohort is already presenting at film festivals!

We received support from the New York Community Trust to help build our infrastructure with new computers and software. And, thanks to the support of the Ford Foundation, we are digitally preserving our Newsreel collection of films from the late 1960s and early 1970s.

But TWN is dependent on your individual support as well. If you attended any of our programs, watched our films, or believe in supporting BIPOC media makers, please consider making a donation to Third World Newsreel today!

The state of the world in 2023 gives us concern for the future, but also the hope that we can change the course of history. We believe that the BIPOC media we produce, distribute, and support through training and fiscal sponsorship are all part of our work to open minds, instigate action, and make change. Please join us in this effort.

Donate directly via our website or via our GiveButter campaign.

Third World Newsreel is a registered 501(c)(3) charitable institution. As such, all donations made are tax-deductible to the fullest extent permitted by law.

Thank you, and best wishes for the New Year!

Sincerely,

TWN Board of Directors Afua Kafi Akua, Sy Burgess, Joel Katz, Dorothy Thigpen, Betty Yu and TWN staff and workshop leaders JT Takagi, Roselly Torres, Neha Gautam, Danny Kim, Chrystian Rodriguez, and Shu Wang.
