Season's Greetings to You & Yours

My Religion is Kindness.

H.H. the 14th Dalai Lama

Dear Friends,

The holiday season is upon us, and I want to take a moment to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! This time of year is all about gathering with those we love, creating memories, and celebrating the joys of life. Whether you're cozied up by the fire, enjoying festive treats, or preparing for the new year, I hope your holidays are filled with warmth, happiness, and peace.

In Bigfork, the Christmas Village looks as beautiful as ever, even if we’re still waiting on that first snowfall. The lights are shining brightly, and our Parade of Lights was so much fun this year! If you haven’t had a chance to catch the holiday spirit, be sure to check out all the local festivities. White Christmas opens this weekend at the Bigfork Playhouse and there’s plenty more going on in Kalispell, Whitefish, and Lakeside—from holiday markets to cozy winter events. And for all the snow lovers out there, Whitefish Mountain Resort and Blacktail Ski Hill are now open for the season!

With the Winter Solstice fast approaching, we can start looking forward to longer days ahead while still savoring the rest the winter season brings—a wonderful reminder that brighter moments are on the horizon, but take time to enjoy the hibernation of winter.

As for my own holiday preparations, the kitchen is filled with the delicious smells of baking cookies and the warmth of shared meals as we prepare for family to join us. Fortunately, Santa visits no matter which house we're in for the holidays, so there’s magic no matter where we celebrate this year. 🎄❣️

Ceri and Odin are, of course, preparing for the season too. Ceri is on high alert, watching for any signs of elf mischief or treats that might be sneaked her way, while Odin is happily settling in for his annual winter nap—two dogs living their best holiday lives!

Speaking of treats, I’m sure many of us are enjoying the delights of holiday goodies right about now. But did you know that wintertime can also be a fantastic time to buy or sell a home? You can find great opportunities in the winter as we talked about last month—whether you’re looking to buy your dream home or sell your current property, don't rule out winter!

As we reflect on the year, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you for your continued trust, friendship, and loyalty throughout 2024. It’s been such a joy working with many of you, and I look forward to an exciting new year of helping with your real estate needs in 2025.

As always, I’m here to support you every step of the way. With my extensive knowledge of the local market and a commitment to smooth, transparent transactions under the new NAR guidelines, you can feel confident in the process. I’m proud to have successfully sold over 85% of my listings each year, and my goal is always to guide you with professionalism, care, and a friendly touch.

If you’re thinking about buying or selling in the new year, or just want to chat about the market, I’m here for you.

Warmly,

Denise

Bigfork Bridge replacement to begin in December

Battle Ridge Builders of Belgrade was awarded the contract for the project totaling 2.6 million and is planning to start the first week of December with the initial busywork that has to happen; getting set up, staging, and the crane to start removing the old bridge.

With some scheduled breaks around the holidays and Memorial Day, as well as the spring Whitewater Festival, work is set to be complete in late June, weather permitting.

Stay tuned for further updates as the project progresses!

TESTIMONIAL

We first met and worked with Denise in 2018, We called her on a Sunday afternoon as we drove by a listing she had, honestly not expecting an answer that day. She answered the phone on a Sunday! That is the type of person she is. We did end up purchasing the property due to some great contract advice. We have since worked with her to sell that same property with some equally great contract advice!

Denise is in your corner, whether buying or selling.

CERI'S CORNER:

-Happy Pawlidays from Ceri & Odin

As the holidays settle in, I, Odin, am thoughtfully giving Ceri a break this month with the newsletter. As you can see, I'm getting comfy for my long winter nap—just like I do every year. You see, a dog’s routine is everything, and it feels extra cozy when I can curl up by the fireplace without any surprises. Speaking of which, it’s important to keep things merry and stable around here—even in the hustle and bustle of the holidays. Ceri, my ever-vigilant sister, has taken up her post, keeping a watchful eye for any mischievous elves or signs of Santa Claus. (I’m sure he’s around the corner, bringing treats and joy, right?)

But while we take on our roles—me, the napper, and Ceri, the sentinel—it's crucial to stick to our routines. My people know exactly when it’s time for my meals, my walks, and my naps. That means my comfort and happiness stay intact, even when the house is buzzing with excitement. You can do the same for your pets—whether it's maintaining their regular feeding, sleeping, or playtime. Trust me, a walk after a hearty holiday meal? It’s as wonderful as it sounds!

Here are a few tips from the humans at Fox Run Animal Hospital (and from me and Ceri, of course):

  • Keep Their Merry Routine: Routine is key. Whether you’re taking a break from gift wrapping or prepping for a family gathering, keep your pets' feeding and playtime schedules as close to normal as possible. It’ll help them feel safe and secure, even in the chaos. Oh, and don’t forget about that after-dinner stroll—it’s a great way to keep spirits high!

  • Show Them Some Love: I’m not one to ask for much, but I do enjoy some extra cuddle time while you watch your holiday shows. It helps me relax and bond with you—and we all need a little extra love during the season of joy!

  • Playtime for Joy: New toys? Yes, please! Playing together helps me stay active and happy. Plus, it’s a pawesome way to keep those holiday stress levels low.

  • Melodies of Comfort: When things get loud (hello, fireworks and parties!), I love a calming melody. Try some soothing music, and I promise I’ll feel much more relaxed.

  • A Helping Paw: If things get too busy, don’t hesitate to call in reinforcements. Maybe a family member, a friend, or even a pet sitter to help with walks or playtime. I don’t mind sharing the love!

And to all the adventurers out there, if you’re planning to travel, don’t forget to make sure your pets are ready for the ride. A visit to the vet, a comfy travel set-up, and a trial stay at a boarding facility can make a world of difference!

So, as Ceri keeps watch and I settle into my holiday snooze, remember to give your furry friends a little extra attention this season. It’ll make all the difference in keeping us happy, healthy, and ready for the next round of holiday festivities!

Tail wags and holiday cheer,

Odin and Ceri 🐾

P.S. Ceri says she’ll be keeping an eye out for any suspicious elf activity. Have to keep those Peanut Butter Blossoms safe! 🎅

DENISE'S READING CORNER

-The God of the Woods & The Long Bright River

I've read both of these Liz Moore books this month and find them to be extraordinarily written, provoking thoughts of family ties, addiction, departed souls, etc.. In these dark days of winter, we look for our light and so often we find it in our family.

* And if you find these books too heavy to be holiday reads, hold them until January, but definitely read them!

The Long Bright River

ONE OF BARACK OBAMA'S FAVORITE BOOKS OF THE YEAR,

In a Philadelphia neighborhood rocked by the opioid crisis, two once-inseparable sisters find themselves at odds. One, Kacey, lives on the streets in the vise of addiction. The other, Mickey, walks those same blocks on her police beat. They don't speak anymore, but Mickey never stops worrying about her sibling.

Then Kacey disappears, suddenly, at the same time that a mysterious string of murders begins in Mickey's district, and Mickey becomes dangerously obsessed with finding the culprit--and her sister--before it's too late.

Alternating its present-day mystery with the story of the sisters' childhood and adolescence, Long Bright River is at once heart-pounding and heart-wrenching: a gripping suspense novel that is also a moving story of sisters, addiction, and the formidable ties that persist between place, family, and fate.

The God of the Woods

ONE OF THE NEW YORK TIMES’S NOTABLE BOOKS OF 2024

Early morning, August 1975: a camp counselor discovers an empty bunk. Its occupant, Barbara Van Laar, has gone missing. Barbara isn’t just any thirteen-year-old: she’s the daughter of the family that owns the summer camp and employs most of the region’s residents. And this isn’t the first time a Van Laar child has disappeared. Barbara’s older brother similarly vanished fourteen years ago, never to be found.

As a panicked search begins, a thrilling drama unfolds. Chasing down the layered secrets of the Van Laar family and the blue-collar community working in its shadow, Moore’s multi-threaded story invites readers into a rich and gripping dynasty of secrets and second chances. It is Liz Moore’s most ambitious and wide-reaching novel yet.
